FIRST BLOOD

For the fifth consecutive game, the Oilers opponent opened the scoring as Jordan Kyrou's one-time blast from the left circle on the power play beat Koskinen glove side for his sixth of the year.
The tally came after Ivan Barbashev thought he netted the match's first marker with a deft redirection that leaked through Koskinen but the Oilers coaching staff - with the help of Video Coach Jeremy Coupal - challenged the play for offside to have the goal brought back.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT

Add 600 career National Hockey League points in 421 games to the never-ending list of McDavid's accomplishments.
The Captain's 10th goal of the year with 0.8 seconds remaining in the first period secured the feat and got the Oilers back on a level playing field.
McDavid became the sixth-fastest player to produce 600 points, joining a legendary group that includes Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Peter Stastny, Mike Bossy and Jari Kurri.

SAVE OF THE GAME

Anything to make the save: Glove, blocker… pad, boot, paddle.
Koskinen's desperation stops on Brandon Saad was by far the greatest of the evening as the keeper continues to show his fight from the blue paint.
Vladimir Tarasenko's pass was tipped by Saad and the forward followed it up with an attempt to deposit the rebound not once but twice - only to be foiled by the Finnish keeper's pad, skate and stick as he kept the Blues at bay with the highlight-reel denials. Koskinen wrapped up the game with 35 saves on 39 shots for his ninth win of the campaign.

TURNING POINT

Just when it appeared as though the game would trickle into overtime, Yamamoto bent the knee to snipe top shelf, preventing the Blues from registering a point and securing the victory in regulation. The goal was the winger's third of the season and also his second point of the evening.

A SERIES OF FIRSTS

First goal of the season for Nugent-Hopkins; first assist of the year for Yamamoto; first goal of his career for Ryan McLeod; all in an eight-second episode.
The middle-period sequence provided the Oilers with a two-goal advantage as Nugent-Hopkins struck at 16:11 with a knuckler from the slot that wouldn't have been scored if it were not for Yamamoto's offensive zone keep. The play was followed up by McLeod's backhand deposit at 16:19 to score the one every young hockey player dreams of.

EDM@STL: McLeod backhands home his first NHL goal

PARTING WORDS

Yamamoto on his game-winner:
"It was a good pass by Nursey, it kind of got in the middle. Leo kind of did the rest. Went down the wall, made a tight turn and I tried to find some soft, open ice and he found me. Luckily, it went in. If you find that soft ice, he's going to find you. You always got to be ready."
Yamamoto on seeing McLeod score his first and what he brings to the lineup:
"That was the most hyped I think I've seen our bench in a while. Seeing him get his first is awesome and I'm really excited for him. I was super excited to see him score his first goal. I'm glad he got it. He's just a really funny guy that likes to make people laugh. Super energetic and just a good guy in the locker room. On the ice, he's fast, tenacious and goes to the hard areas."

McLeod's recollection of the play that produced his first NHL goal:
"It was a pretty surreal moment. The puck was going to the net and I was coming down the middle. It popped out and I took a backhander and the guys put their arms in the air. I honestly couldn't' even really see it go in. A pretty surreal moment that you dream of as a kid. It was pretty cool."
Head Coach Dave Tippett's assessment of the game:
We had some first for things. Nuge got his first one, McLeod got his first one, Yamo got a big goal at the end, which is good to see. Took too many penalties but they got a very good power play. They put a lot of pucks on the net on their power play. The penalty part of it wasn't a good part. We gave up four on a night where we got to defend a little better but we'll take the two points and move on."

POST-RAW | Dave Tippett 11.14.21

Tippett on McLeod's first of his career goal:
"He's a great kid. He works hard and he's trying to find his way in the League, so to get that first one under his belt is really good. It was a big goal for us. I'm happy for him Our players like him a lot and they're happy to see him get the first one.
He's just a good guy. He's always smiling, always upbeat. He endears himself to his teammates. They're very happy for him."
Tippett on Koskinen's performance:
"He was excellent. He made some big saves. We didn't defend very well in front of him and they threw a lot of pucks around that net, so he had to make some big saves for us."
