EDMONTON, AB -At one point Friday morning, Pat Maroon looked over at his new linemate and said, "he's fast, eh?"
Maroon was speaking to Ryan Strome, the Oilers biggest off-season acquisition, about Connor McDavid. The three are together on a line for the start of training camp practices.
Strome responded, "yeah, he is."
"He can fly," Strome said of McDavid.
"It was definitely pretty cool. It's definitely going to be a little bit of an adjustment just with where to give him the puck and how quick he moves, but it's a great opportunity. I know Patty likes to be around the net and bang pucks in. He's a big body. I think if we could just grow that chemistry a bit and see what happens… I'm sure things will change in the lineup. Edmonton has always changed it, throughout the games even. I think just trying to keep that hard work in practice and not get too focused with the combinations."
In addition to McDavid's blazing speed, the overall pace of practice was quick and encouraging for Strome.
"Good skate. Obviously, it was my first time at Todd's (McLellan) training camp and with some of these guys. It was a good skate. I like to see the pace these guys are at. It's definitely a little bit of a change from what I'm used to. I can definitely see why this team is fast and skilled, just judging by the practice."
