EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers host the New York Islanders on Thursday, meaning former Oilers forward Jordan Eberle will make his return to Oil Country for the first time since he was traded for Ryan Strome.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins commented on his friend and former teammate returning to Edmonton.
"I talk to him quite regularly still," said Nugent-Hopkins. "Saw him when we went out there (to New York) obviously but I think he'll be excited to come back here and play. Hopefully, the fans give him a good ovation."
Nugent-Hopkins said Eberle underwent many years with the Oilers and likes seeing him play well on his new club.
"He spent a lot of time here and put in some good years," he said. "Hopefully they cheer him on loud. When your buddies like that go somewhere else, you still want them to succeed. It's good to see him playing well."
Eberle has 23 goals and 47 points in 66 games this season.
