EDMONTON, AB - A first pre-season game is in the books for centre Cooper Marody.
The former University of Michigan Wolverine, acquired via trade from the Philadelphia Flyers back in March for a third-round pick, fired four shots the way of the Vancouver Canucks in a 4-2 win for the Oilers in their second tune-up match on back-to-back nights.
"I thought I had a lot of chances and could've had a few goals, but some nights they don't go in," Marody said. "It was a little faster, they played basically an all-NHL lineup, so it was good to see how that is and see the pace you have to play with on a nightly basis."
Marody centred a line flanked by wingers Ostap Safin and Ty Rattie, who helped the Brighton, Michigan product settle in from puck drop in his first NHL contest.
"We just talked about keeping it simple for the first couple of shifts and we'd go from there," Marody said of Rattie, who suited up for 14 games in Oilers threads last season. "I think it was great playing with him. Playing with the better players in a way is easier. Guys know where to be and they make the right play, and like I said it was easier in some aspects playing with a guy like him and other NHLers."
