Fleury gets win No. 490, Golden Knights defeat Wild in OT

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Marc-Andre Fleury moved into third place in NHL history with his 490th win when Alex Pietrangelo scored at 1:53 of overtime for the Vegas Golden Knights in a 3-2 victory against the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center on Wednesday.

Fleury, who made 26 saves, passed Roberto Luongo. Patrick Roy is second with 551 wins, and Martin Brodeur is first with 691. Fleury has won seven straight starts and has not allowed more than two goals in those games.
"I knew this season was a short season, and both me and (Vegas goalie) Robin [Lehner] get to play, right?" Fleury said. "I didn't think I was going to reach Roberto, and I'm pretty honored to have a chance to play enough and play on such a great team that allowed me to catch him. … Every night, I just try to do our best and keep the game close and keep our team into it, and the team has been playing very well and scoring some goals, so obviously that has been helping me out there."

Pietrangelo won it with a one-timer from the left face-off circle after a cross-ice pass from Alex Tuch.
Reilly Smith scored for the Golden Knights (37-13-2), who have won 13 of 15 and are four points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche for first place in the Honda West Division. Colorado, which has played one fewer game, lost 3-2 at the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday.
"This time of the year, it's probably my favorite time of the year," Pietrangelo said. "As you get up to the playoffs, everything becomes obviously more competitive."
Kirill Kaprizov scored twice in the third period for the Wild (22-14-5), who have lost three of five and trail the Avalanche by one point for second place in the West. Cam Talbot made 31 saves.
"We like to think we can get better as the game goes on, and that's what we want," Minnesota forward Marcus Foligno said. "We want to be able to finish teams and to come back, and that's not going to be an easy road, we know that. If we have that resiliency and that mentality going into third periods that we can catch teams if we're down a goal or two, that's just going to help us."

Kaprizov deflected in a pass from Mats Zuccarello at 11:13 of the third period for his 25th goal of the season to tie it 1-1, then gave the Wild a 2-1 lead 13:23.
Kaprizov has four goals and two assists during a four-game point streak. The rookie forward has scored 12 points (10 goals, two assists) in his past 10 games.
"I think certainly that's why [players like Kaprizov are] going to get more money than some other guys, right?" Wild coach Dean Evason said. "They score more goals in those situations, and they've got a knack for doing that and are obviously gifted at doing that. [But] we've had people step up all over the place. Kirill's had a [heck] of a year, no question, but there's so many other things that everybody does on our hockey club that allows us to have success."

Smith ended a nine-game goal drought and tied it 2-2 off a pass from William Karlsson on a power play at 15:44.
Chandler Stephenson gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 8:30 of the second period on a one-timer off a pass from Mattias Janmark.
Vegas salvaged a split following a 6-5 loss here Monday, which was its fifth straight against Minnesota.
"It was a hard-fought game, and a real gutsy effort by our guys," Golden Knights coach Peter DeBoer said. "Coming back the way they did in the third again, it looked like the same story as the other night, but I loved our response. We were better tonight, we deserved it. We put a lot of good work in. I'm glad we ended the curse [against the Wild], at least for tonight."
NOTES: The Wild played without forward Kevin Fiala, who was a late scratch because of a lower-body injury. Evason said the injury is nothing serious and more precautionary, but Fiala will be re-evaluated Thursday. … Karlsson has scored four points (one goal, three assists) during a three-game point streak and six points (three goals, three assists) in his past six games. ...
