VANCOUVER - The Canadiens couldn't hold onto the 4-0 lead they had built themselves in the first period and fell 7-6 to the Vancouver Canucks in overtime on Monday night at Rogers Arena.

With David Savard out with an upper-body injury, Jordan Harris drew back into the lineup.
Sam Montembeault got the start in goal.

The Habs opened the score early when Harris grabbed a loose puck in the Canucks' zone and dished it to Cole Caufield, who one-timed it from his usual spot for his 14th of the season at 7:49 of the first.
Harris got the assist.

Several minutes later, captain Nick Suzuki benefited from a long feed through the neutral zone from Kaiden Guhle and capitalized by wristing it past Vancouver starter Spencer Martin to make it 2-0. It was also Suzuki's 14th of the season, with the assist from Guhle.

Then, with just over six minutes to go in the frame and the Canadiens coming off a power play, Sean Monahan redirected Suzuki's pass into the net to add a third goal for the visitors - his sixth of the season.
Suzuki and Mike Matheson earned the apples.

As if that weren't enough, Michael Pezzetta netted his first of the campaign 80 seconds later. Harris once again played an important part in the marker, driving the puck into the zone and delivering a nifty backhand pass through traffic, which Pezzetta buried at 16:17 of the first.
Harris and Jake Evans picked up helpers on the play.

Montreal headed to the room with a 4-0 lead, outshooting Vancouver 11-9 in the opening frame.
The second was a little quieter on the scoresheet, but Conor Garland broke Montembeault's shutout with 3:02 left to play in the period.
The Canucks further cut into the Canadiens' lead 90 seconds later, when Ilya Mikheyev beat Montembeault to make it a 4-2 game.
That's where things would stand after 40 minutes of play. Vancouver outshot Montreal 13-8 in the period.
In the final frame, Bo Horvat brought his team within one when he netted his 20th of the season at the 4:02 mark.
Then, Mikheyev evened the score with his second of the night just 1:43 later.
The Canucks took their first lead of the night with 11:11 remaining in regulation when Jack Studnicka lit the lamp for the second time this season.
The Habs weren't ready to roll over, however. First, Christian Dvorak tied things up again when he picked up Evgenii Dadonov's rebound and lifted it over Collin Delia - who replaced Martin after the Habs' fourth goal - to tie the game with 4:37 remaining.

With exactly three minutes left in regulation, the rebound from Josh Anderson's shot bounced off a Canucks player and past Delia to once again give the Habs the lead.

But the Canucks had the answer to Anderson's goal, with Andrei Kuzmenko tying the game once more with 95 seconds to go in the third.
Elias Pettersson gave the Canucks the win just 13 seconds into overtime.
The Canadiens departed for Seattle right after the game, as they'll be facing the Kraken in the second game of their back-to-back on Tuesday night at Climate Pledge Arena.
