Most of the guys said that Kunitz and his wife Maureen had the best ones. Chris dressed as Frankenstein while Maureen went as his bride, and both had their makeup professionally done.
"We had someone come do our makeup, so the makeup was kind of our costume," Kunitz said. "We like Halloween. We try to outdo ourselves every year, so this year it was time to get some face paint."
Another couple of players who went all-out in that regard were Kris Letang and Marc-Andre Fleury. Letang went as Bill Turner from the movie franchise Pirates of the Caribbean, while his wife Catherine went as a mermaid. Letang told me their makeup took five hours to do.
Meanwhile, Fleury and his wife Veronique dressed as old people. They had on gray wigs while Fleury even had a fake potbelly.
"We usually like to go with something funny," Fleury said. "I think this was good because some outfits have a mask and they are annoying. For this you can just put makeup on. Someone came over and made us look older with wrinkles and stuff."
Those three guys definitely impressed the rest of the group with the amount of effort they put in.
"You had to take a double look at (Kunitz)," Eric Fehr said. "It didn't look like him at all. He had a really good one. Him, Letang and Flower, those three love Halloween. They prepare weeks in advance and the rest of us try to get costumes scrambled together."
My personal favorite was Bryan Rust, Conor Sheary, Scott Wilson and their significant others all dressing as characters from Mario Kart.
"We couldn't think of a thing to do forever," said Rust, who was Yoshi while Wilson was Bowser and Sheary was Mario. "Then I forget where we found it, but we're like oh, Mario Kart characters, kind of boring, people do that all the time. Then we're like okay, thought more about it and just took it to another level."
They did that by riding scooters with balloons attached to the back.
"We ditched the scooters about halfway through the night," Rust laughed.
Carl Hagelin was on the same page as them, also dressing as Mario.
"I wasn't part of the group, there were just a lot of Marios in there," Hagelin said. "I just went to the Halloween costume store and it popped out to me. I've always been a big Nintendo fan and I thought this was the time."
The boys all wore their costumes to the rink this morning for practice, with everyone bringing a change of clothes except for Daniel Sprong - who had to leave the facility dressed in his gorilla costume.

- Fleury's favorite was Brian Dumoulin dressed as Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast
- Tom Kuhnhackl and his girlfriend dressed as pirates. "She really wanted to be a pirate so I didn't really have a choice," he joked. "That's the most important thing, that's she's happy. If she wanted to go as a pirate, obviously I'd jump on the wagon and be a pirate too."

- Ian Cole went as Slash while his wife Jordan was Axl Rose
- Eric Fehr went as Tigger while his wife Rachel was Winnie the Pooh
- Matt Cullen got his costume on the way to the party, stopping at Dick's Sporting Goods and buying a Gerritt Cole Pirates uniform
- Nick Bonino and his wife Lauren were Pokemon Go teams. He was Instinct; she was Valor
