NEW YORK --Zack Smith had two goals and an assist and Mark Stone scored a tie-breaking goal in the second period to help the Ottawa Senators to a 6-2 win against the New York Islanders at Barclays Center on Sunday.
Smith scored an even-strength goal in the first period and a shorthanded empty-net goal in the third for the Senators (18-11-3), who have won back-to-back games. He has five points in the past two games.

"That's where I need to go to score, screen and tips, stuff like that," Smith said of his first goal, in which he deflected a shot by Stone. "When the team is playing well and the puck is going well, if you're there, you're going to get chances."

Ottawa goalie Andrew Hammond made seven saves
before he left with 3:15 remaining
in the first period. Hammond contorted his body on a shot by Shane Prince was deflected and got behind him, but didn't go in. Hammond did return to the bench area after the first intermission to back up Mike Condon, who made 22 saves.
Senators coach Guy Boucher said Hammond turned his ankle but didn't know if he would miss any time.
"It's never good to come in, especially when a guy gets hurt and when I saw [Hammond] make that move, right away I knew that was something pretty serious," Condon said. "Hopefully he can get back quick."

Anders Lee and Anthony Beauvillier scored in the second period for the Islanders (11-14-6), who have lost five in a row (0-4-1). J-F Berube made 28 saves in his second straight start.
John Tavares appeared to score at 4:30 of the third period to tie the game at 3-3 but after a review, but video review concluded the puck didn't cross the line.
Less than two minutes later, Derick Brassard scored his sixth of the season to give Ottawa a 4-2 lead.
Ottawa, which scored three times in the third period, also got goals from Bobby Ryan and Tom Pyatt.

New York has been outscored 12-0 after the second period in the past five games.
"We're not scoring as many goals and we're giving up too many," Islanders captain John Tavares said. "So have to find a way to correct that."
Ryan gave the Senators a 1-0 lead at 10:30 of the first period after a shot by Kyle Turris hit Ryan's elbow and deflected past Berube. It was his sixth goal of the season.
Lee got the Islanders within one 33 seconds into the second period with his ninth goal in the past 13 games before Beauvillier scored on a breakaway later in the period to make it 2-2.

But the Senators, which defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-1 in Ottawa on Saturday, scored the next four goals.
"It was a good one especially for a back-to-back," Smith said. "We played a tight stingy game. ... We didn't give them much."

Save of the game

At 4:39 of the second period with the Islanders trailing 2-1, Tavares was on the left side of Condon with a wide-open net, but his shot was blocked by Senators defenseman Cody Cici before Condon made the save with his pad. "I was swimming there a bit. I was down and out and was able to throw a leg out, and I think it just hit my toe a little bit there," Condon said. "Good bounces again tonight."

Unsung performance of the game

With the Senators winning 1-0, defenseman Dion Phaneuf swept the puck out of the crease on Prince's shot - on the same play in which Hammond was injured - which otherwise would have gone in and tied the game. Phaneuf blocked four shots and had an assist.

Highlight of the game

Stone's shot from the point caromed off the boards and came to Brassard at the side of the net, who got control of the puck and put it above Berube's pad to give the Senators a 4-2 lead.

They said it

"This is a back-to-back where we travelled, where we get to bed at 3:30 in the morning and we come here and we win 6-2. At the end, we were playing a very patient game just not to allow any breaks because they are a very stretch team ... when you look at our special teams, we were 50 percent on the power play and were 100 percent on the penalty kill." --Senators coach Guy Boucher
"It's a frustrating game. … It needs to be a better effort through the end of the game. Right there for the taking again." --Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic

Need to know

Islanders forward Casey Cizikas missed his second straight game because of an upper-body injury, and coach Jack Capuano said he's not close to returning. ... New York has allowed seven power-play goals during its losing streak. ... Ryan has a goal in three straight games.
