Nick DeSimone broke a tie with a power-play goal at 10:51 of the third period, and the San Jose Sharks defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 5-3 at T-Mobile Arena in the final game of the NHL preseason.

Marcus Sorensen, Chris Tierney, Barclay Goodrow and Joel Ward also scored for San Jose, which went 4-2-0 in the preseason. Aaron Dell made 20 saves through 31:48 before being relieved by Troy Grosenick, who made 14 saves.
Erik Haula, David Perron and Colin Miller scored for Vegas, which went 3-3-1 in the preseason. Marc-Andre Fleury made 28 saves.

Ward scored an empty-net goal at 19:32 of the third period.
The Sharks open their regular season at home against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday (10:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, NHL.TV).
The Golden Knights will make their NHL regular-season debut at the Dallas Stars on Friday (8:30 p.m. ET; NHLN, SN360, TVA Sports, FS-SW, ATTSN-RM, NHL.TV).

Beauvillier scores twice to help Islanders defeat Flyers

Anders Lee and Anthony Beauvillier scored 45 seconds apart in the second period to help the New York Islanders to a 5-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center.
Beauvillier scored again in the third period, and Dennis Seidenberg and Steve Bernier also scored for New York, which finished 6-0-2 in the preseason. Thomas Greiss made 31 saves.
Michael Raffl scored in the first period for Philadelphia, and Wayne Simmonds scored in the third. Brian Elliott made 17 saves. The Flyers finished 3-2-3 in the preseason.

Raffl gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead 2:21 into the game, but Seidenberg tied it at 13:10 of the first period.
Lee made it 2-1 with a power-play goal at 2:22 of the second period. Beauvillier then scored at 3:07 on a wrist shot from the left circle.
Beauvillier scored his second goal of the game 32 seconds into the third period during a power play.
Simmonds made it 4-2 with a power-play goal at 6:32 of the third, before Bernier scored an empty-net goal at 19:36.
Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere sustained an upper-body injury in the third period. The severity of the injury wasn't immediately known.
The Flyers open their regular season at the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday (10:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, NHL.TV). The Islanders begin at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday (7 p.m. ET; FS-O, MSG+, NHL.TV).

Connolly's late goal gets Capitals past Blues

Brett Connolly broke a tie with 4:26 remaining in the third period and gave the Washington Capitals a 4-3 win against the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center.
Tom Wilson, Devante Smith-Pelly and John Carlson also scored for Washington, and Matt Niskanen had two assists. Braden Holtby made 20 saves.
Wade Megan, Dmitrij Jaskin and Brayden Schenn scored for St. Louis. Jake Allen made 17 saves.
Wilson gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead 8:29 into the game before Megan tied it at 11:34.
Jaskin (5:03) and Schenn (13:45, power play) had goals for the Blues in the second period. Smith-Pelly scored at 7:55.
Carlson tied it for Washington 3:40 into the third period.
St. Louis finished 3-5-0 in the preseason. Washington went 2-5-0.
The Blues open the regular season at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, NHL.TV). The Capitals begin at the Ottawa Senators on Thursday (7:30 p.m. ET; RDS2, TSN5, CSN-DC, NHL.TV).
