Sanderson Zub OTT

Welcome to the NHL Status Report. Here is the latest lineup/injury news around the NHL.

Ottawa Senators

Neither Jake Sanderson nor Artem Zub participated in the morning skate and remain out for the Senators against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Monday (7 p.m. ET; MSGSN, NHLN, SN+, TVAS). Sanderson, Ottawa’s top defenseman, has not played since its season opener at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 3 because of an undisclosed injury. He led Senators defensemen last season in goals (14), assists (40), points (54) and time on ice per game (24:50). Zub (knee) has been skating, but the defenseman has yet to make his season debut. He had 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) and was plus-22 in 81 games in 2025-26 while averaging 20:48 of ice time.

New Jersey Devils

Luke Evangelista (illness) was not on the ice with the Devils for their morning skate Monday, but coach Sheldon Keefe expects him to play against the Senators (7 p.m. ET; MSGSN, NHLN, SN+, TVAS). The forward has three points (two goals, one assist) in four games for New Jersey after being acquired in a trade with the Nashville Predators on Sept. 2. Forward Stefan Noesen has been recalled from Utica of the AHL as precaution should Evangelista be unable to play following warmups. ,,, Connor Brown (lower body) skated Monday morning and could make his season debut later this week. The forward was injured during practice Sept. 28. He had 43 points (18 goals, 25 assists) in 75 games last season, his first with the Devils. “The lack of practice time is a bit of a challenge in terms of our schedule and him feeling good to play in a game, so that’ll be the next step,” Keefe said. New Jersey visits the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, then hosts the New York Rangers on Thursday before visiting the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

Washington Capitals

Matt Roy was placed on injured reserve by the Capitals. The defenseman skated Monday but remains day to day since sustaining a lower-body injury during a 3-1 loss at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Oct. 3. He does not have a point in two games this season. In corresponding moves, defenseman Justin Holl was recalled from Hershey of the American Hockey League, and defenseman Rasmus Sandin (ACL surgery) was moved to long-term injured reserve. … Pierre-Luc Dubois (illness) did not practice Monday and will not travel for the game at the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday (6:45 p.m. ET; HHN, CARNHL, MNMT). Forward Alex Tuch (maintenance) also did not practice, but coach Spencer Carbery said he “would assume he’s going to play” Tuesday.

Winnipeg Jets

Josh Morrissey (upper body) skated Monday but remains day to day, Jets coach Scott Arniel said. Their top defenseman was injured after a hit on Colorado Avalanche forward T.J. Hughrs in the first period of a 3-2 win on Wednesday. Morrissey played one shift at the beginning of the second period but then left the game and did not return. Winnipeg hosts the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday (8:15 p.m. ET; TSN3, MINNHL, Wild+).

Pittsburgh Penguins

Andrei Kuzmenko was back at practice with the Penguins on Monday and could play at the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; CHSN, SN-PIT). The forward was granted non-roster status following the death of his father Sept. 24. Kuzmenko skated on a line with center Ben Kindel and right wing Ville Koivunen. “I still want to touch base with him, conversations, but full participant,” coach Dan Muse said. “... We'll have some conversations and figure things out for tomorrow." … Defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk (lower body) is day to day; he did not practice and won’t travel with the team for the start of a four-game road trip, but Muse said he could play before it ends at the Utah Mammoth on Oct. 19. … Forward Justin Brazeau (lower body) skated Monday, but Muse said he remains week to week.

Calgary Flames

Samuel Honzek (lower body) is week to week, the Flames announced Monday. The forward hasn’t played since Oct. 8, a 7-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Honzek does not have a point in four games this season. Calgary visits the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday (9:45 p.m. ET; Prime Video, KCOP-13, SNW).
