The Senators traded Hoffman, defenseman prospect Cody Donaghey and a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft to the San Jose Sharks for forward Mikkel Boedker, defenseman prospect Julius Bergman and a sixth-round pick in 2020 on June 19. Two hours later, the Sharks traded the 28-year-old forward and a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft to the Panthers for a second-round pick in 2019 NHL Draft and fourth- and fifth-round picks in 2018.
Hoffman had 230 points (107 goals, 123 assists) in 342 games with the Senators. He has 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) in a 15-game point streak, the longest current streak in the NHL and the longest in Panthers history.
Goalie James Reimer will start for Florida, which has lost two straight following a five-game winning streak.
Goalie Craig Anderson will start for the Senators, who seek their third straight win. Anderson, who has a .907 save percentage, has played in 18 of 20 games this season.
