Scheifele, Jets defeat Stars in shootout, extend point streak to seven

WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Jets extended their point streak to seven games with a 4-3 shootout victory against the Dallas Stars at Canada Life Centre on Tuesday.

Mark Scheifele had an assist and won it for Winnipeg in the third round of the shootout in his first game since entering NHL COVID-19 protocol Oct. 21.
"It was awesome to be back for the boys," Scheifele said. "I had a blast. It was huge to get the win and so fun to be back. It was my first game back in front of the Jets fans again, so it felt even better."
Pierre-Luc Dubois scored, and Nate Schmidt had two assists for the Jets (5-2-2), who are 5-0-2 during the streak. Eric Comrie made 24 saves.
Jason Robertson and Tyler Seguin tied the game with goals less than four minutes apart in the third period for the Stars (3-4-2). Braden Holtby made 32 saves.
"We were down two goals going into the third period and we were able to tie it up, so I was very encouraged with the third period," Dallas coach Rick Bowness said. "I always say when you lose in a shootout, you don't lose the game, you lose in a skills contest. For 65 minutes, we played them even and they scored the extra goal in the shootout. But again, it's 3-1 going into the third and you tie it up and we had some really good looks in the third and I was encouraged by that."

Paul Stastny gave Winnipeg a 1-0 lead at 10:29 of the first period on a redirection of Nathan Beaulieu's shot from the point.
Stars captain Jamie Benn tied it 1-1 at 16:16 after a pass from along the boards by Seguin.
"I just don't think we were playing aggressive enough," Benn said. "They were coming at us and then we took some penalties. On their power play, they were zipping it around."

Josh Morrissey gave the Jets a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal 32 seconds into the second period.
Dallas forward Roope Hintz had a breakaway goal disallowed at 6:25 of the second after video review deemed the play offside.
Dubois scored 58 seconds later with a power-play goal at 7:23 to make it 3-1. The goal extended his point streak to eight games (seven goals, four assists).
The Jets outshot the Stars 17-8 in the second period.
"You look at the guys that I'm out there with on the power play, some pretty talented players," Morrissey said. [Schmidt] has been lights out on that pass over to me, and when you have that many weapons, someone's going to make a great play."

But Robertson cut it to 3-2 with a power-play goal at 9:37 of the third period, and Seguin redirected John Klingberg's shot at 13:16 to tie it 3-3.
Holtby made four saves in overtime to force the shootout.
Kyle Connor scored in the first round for Winnipeg, and Joe Pavelski tied it for Dallas in the second round.
"It's disappointing. It's a point for us, obviously, but we need to find ways here to start winning games," Klingberg said. "If it takes overtime or penalty shots we'll take it, but we need to find ways to win games in 60 minutes too.

"We talk a lot in the room, 'bend but not break.' So, we just need to find ways to control those momentums better and be better 60 minutes overall."
NOTES: Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck was not in uniform after his wife gave birth earlier Tuesday. Mikhail Berdin served as Comrie's backup. … Connor's six-game point streak ended (six goals, seven assists). … Seguin has scored 47 points (25 goals, 22 assists) in 41 games against Winnipeg. … Stars defenseman Thomas Harley made his NHL debut. The 20-year-old had two hits, two blocked shots and a shot on goal in 15:09 of ice time.
