Stars team scope

The Dallas Stars activated forward Jiri Hudler from injured reserve on Friday, though he didn't dress Saturday. Hudler has played four games and been out of the lineup since Nov. 1 because of an illness. "We know what Jiri brings," coach Lindy Ruff Ruff said. "He's creative and he can make plays." Ruff said after practice Friday that he would not commit to playing Hudler in both of the Stars' games this weekend, against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday and the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. "He's missed a lot of time," he said. "I'm going to go one game at a time. We've seen when we put players in that come off of injury it takes them a while." Defenseman Johnny Oduya has been out since Nov. 19 because of a lower-body injury. Ruff said Friday that Oduya would play one of the two games this weekend but not both; he did not dress Saturday.

Flyers team scope

Philadelphia will go for its eighth straight victory, which would be the Flyers' longest streak since winning eight in a row Jan. 6-19, 2002. Steve Mason likely will start in goal for the seventh straight game, and for the 15th time in the Flyers' past 17 games. Mason said he's enjoying the heavy workload. "When you're playing well you want to keep going," he said Friday. "But there's also times when as a goaltender if you don't play well and you get to go right back in it's awesome to get right back at it. Where if you don't play well and you have to sit for a game or two or three, that's when it's the most tough. To be in a No. 1 position when you're playing every game and have the rare day off … that's the position every goaltender wants to be in, to be that guy looked at night in and night out." Coach Dave Hakstol said after an optional practice Friday that he hadn't decided how he would handle the goaltending against the Stars on Saturday and at the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. "We'll take it one day at a time," he said.

Status report

Ruff would not reveal his goaltender Saturday. Lehtonen is 1-10-3 with a 3.49 goals-against average and .890 save percentage in his career against the Flyers, but the last time he played against them he made 25 saves in a 2-1 Stars victory. He's also 2-1-0 with a 1.34 GAA and .949 save percentage in his past three games. Niemi is 4-1-0 in five regular-season games against the Flyers and was the starting goalie for the Blackhawks when they beat Philadelphia to win the Stanley Cup in 2010. But he's allowed nine goals in his past two games. "You can second guess any decision you can make on the goalies," Ruff said. "Sometimes you play the numbers, you're wrong, sometimes you play the numbers, you're right. You can't go back on any of the decisions." Eakin is expected to play after being a healthy scratch Thursday; he didn't practice Friday but is expected to play Saturday. If Hudler plays, Eaves will shift to the fourth line and Cracknell will be a healthy scratch. Honka was placed on injured reserve Friday, retroactive to Dec. 6, and is not with the team. Sharp skated on his own Friday but is no closer to returning. "He saw another specialist and he's doing pretty good," Ruff said. "Where the exercises takes him and how he feels, we'll go from there. He's working out hard and had a good skate." … There aren't expected to be any lineup changes for the Flyers.
