Rapid Recap: Coyotes 3, Avalanche 2

The Colorado Avalanche once again rallied from a two-goal deficit but ended up falling 3-2 to the Arizona Coyotes on Monday night at Ball Arena.
It was the third straight contest that Colorado tied the game after trailing by 2-0 at one point, but this time it couldn't come away with any points in the standings. The Avs went 1-1-1 in those outings.
Johan Larsson tallied the game-winner for the Coyotes as his shot from the left point appeared to be redirected in front of goalie Philipp Grubauer and hit twine at 4:04 of the third period.

The Avalanche had a 35-14 edge in shots in the contest, keeping the Coyotes to single-digit totals each period.
Valeri Nichushkin and Andre Burakovsky scored in the second period in the Avs' comeback attempt, knotting the game at 2-2 heading into the third frame. Samuel Girard, Ryan Graves, Nazem Kadri and Mikko Rantanen had assists.
Derick Brassard and Jakob Chychrun also tallied for the Coyotes.

14:52 COL (2-2) - PPG, Andre Burakovsky lasered a shot from the left circle into twine to knot the game at 2-2.

4:04 ARI (2-3) - Johan Larsson scored after his shot from the point was redirected into the net from traffic in the low slot.

Arizona: Darcy Kuemper started the contest and stopped 17-of-19 shots before leaving 2:20 into the third period with an injury. Antti Raanta played the remainder of the game and stopped all 16 shots he faced.

ROSTER REPORT

Defenseman Greg Pateryn was recalled from the AHL Colorado Eagles and played his fourth game with the Avs, skating on a defensive pairing with Ryan Graves. Mikko Rantanen started the contest as the center on a line with Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichushkin. Matt Calvert returned to the lineup after missing the previous six games with an upper-body injury and was on a line with Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Logan O'Connor. Philipp Grubauer made his 19th start of the season in goal. Goalie Peyton Jones and forward Kiefer Sherwood are on the taxi squad.

INJURY UPDATE

Nathan MacKinnon (upper body) took part in morning skate in a red, non-contact jersey and could possibly return to the lineup as early as Wednesday. Bowen Byram (upper body) and Cale Makar (upper body) continue to skate on their own but no timetable has been set for their return yet. Conor Timmins (upper body) missed his first game of the year with an injury, while J.T. Compher (upper body) was out for the second-consecutive contest. Dennis Gilbert (upper body) continues to progress in his recovery after having surgery. Goaltender Pavel Francouz (lower body) and defenseman Erik Johnson (upper body) are out long term.
