Sedin Canucks Ducks

VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Canucks didn't start fast against the road weary Anaheim Ducks at Rogers Arena on Friday but their finish made up for it.
Henrik Sedin scored on a 2-on-1 with 59 seconds left in overtime and the Canucks rallied to defeat the Ducks 3-2.
"They came in on back-to-back [games] and we wanted to take advantage," Sedin said. "We didn't get off to a great start but I thought we took over halfway through the first and played even with them. A good comeback win."

Jack Skille tied the game 2-2 by scoring off his rebound at 2:02 of the third period after the Canucks trailed 2-0 early in the second.
The Ducks were coming off a 3-1 win against the Calgary Flames on Thursday and set Anaheim records with 11 road games and 8,617 miles of travel in December.
Ryan Getzlaf scored a shorthanded goal 5:48 into the first period and Rickard Rakell scored 52 seconds into the second period to give Anaheim a 2-0 lead.
Loui Eriksson started the Canucks' comeback with a deflection on the power play 7:59 into the second period to make it 2-1 and helped finish it by leading the 2-on-1 in overtime. He passed cross-ice to Sedin, who held the puck before beating John Gibson with a snap shot under the crossbar.
"Loui made a great pass," Sedin said.

Ryan Miller made 24 saves for the Canucks (16-18-3), who won consecutive games for the second time since starting the season with four straight wins.
"As long as we're close, we feel like we're in it," Miller said. "The boys chipped away. It's a really nice win."
Anaheim lost for the first time in 13 games this season when leading after two periods, and is 0-7 in overtime. Getzlaf and Cam Fowler failed to convert two 2-on-1 chances, with the rebound of Fowler's slap shot bouncing past Getzlaf on the second chance to set up the winning rush the other way.
"We [stink] at 3-on-3," Getzlaf said. "Me and Cam ran into each other trying to keep our speed to make sure we could get back, and away they go. Their skilled guys made a good play."
Gibson made 23 saves for the Ducks (18-12-8), who are 1-1-3 in the past five games. Anaheim was shorthanded seven times and got one power play.
"We were in a position to win and we took too many careless penalties," Getzlaf said.

Goal of the game

Vancouver had two early power plays but Getzlaf scored shorthanded on the second one, taking a cross-ice pass from Joseph Cramarossa and catching Miller moving the wrong way with a quick wrist shot low on the blocker side.

Save of the game

Corey Perry had an open net in the slot with 7:25 left in the second period but Miller sprawled out and reached back while falling to glove the fluttering backhand.
"Luckily he didn't get all of it and I was able to stretch," Miller said.

Unsung performance of the game

Bo Horvat didn't get an assist on Skille's goal but made the play that led to it, banking the puck to himself with a backhand off the back of the Ducks net to elude Rakell, then passing to Alexander Edler in the slot.

Highlight of the game

Hampus Lindholm's point shot ramped off the stick of Canucks forward Brandon Sutter and trickled under the blocker arm of Miller. The puck went behind Miller and was knocked in when defenseman Troy Stecher tried to push it back under his right pad. Rakell hit the front of the pad skating through the crease and was credited with the goal. The Canucks challenged for goalie interference but the play was upheld.

They said it

"We took too many penalties tonight. Power plays were 7-1. It's hard to win on the road doing that, especially in a back-to-back. Guys get taxed all game long." -- Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf
"Whenever you're down 2-0, the next goal is going to be huge. They had some chances to go up 3-0, but he made those saves and kept us in the game." -- Canucks captain Henrik Sedin on goalie Ryan Miller
