OTTAWA -- Mike Hoffman scored a power-play goal at 4:03 of overtime to give the Ottawa Senators a 2-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday.
Hoffman scored the game-winner with a one-timer from the right-wing circle for his 10th goal. He leads Ottawa with six power-play goals.
"That was our kind of objective leading up to the Christmas break," Hoffman said. "We wanted to finish on a high note."
Ryan Dzingel also scored and Mike Condon made 24 saves for the Senators (20-11-3), who extended their winning streak to four games.

"The players deserve all the credit for how well we're doing right now," Senators coach Guy Boucher said. "We don't want to sit on it. It's good that we get a break. I think everybody has pushed so hard, it's going to be very welcome."
Jakob Silfverberg scored and John Gibson made 16 saves for the Ducks (17-12-6), who finished a six-game road trip 2-3-1.
The Ducks tied it 1-1 with the man-advantage with 10 seconds left in the second period. Corey Perry made a backwards pass between his legs from the edge of the crease to set up Silfverberg with an open net for his ninth goal.
"I think Perry did a great job and realized that I was open," Silfverberg said. "I don't know how he saw me. It was pretty much a tap-in and it was a big goal at the time and got some momentum swinging our way. Probably one of my easier ones, but it was a big one for us."
Dzingel gave the Senators a 1-0 lead 1:02 into the second period when Kyle Turris found him with a pass in the slot. He scored with a shot under the crossbar for his eighth goal.

Goal of the game

With the Senators on the power play in overtime, Hoffman set up in the right-wing circle, which has been a successful spot for him this season. Dion Phaneuf passed the puck down into the circle from the high slot and Hoffman one-timed a shot into the top of the net.
"I think Dion made a pretty good fake and got the goalie to go down in the butterfly, which kind of made the net open," Hoffman said. "Then you've just got to hit it."

Save of the game

With six seconds left in a double minor penalty for high sticking to Senators forward Bobby Ryan 9:03 into the third period, the Ducks broke into the Ottawa zone on a 2-on-1. Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf fed a pass to Rickard Rakell on the right side, but Condon got across the net to make the save.

Highlight of the game

With the Ducks on the power play in the final minute of the second period, Perry made a spectacular no-look pass to Silfverberg, backhanding the puck between his legs from the edge of the crease to Condon's left to a wide open Silfverberg, who had an open net.

Unsung performance of the game

Facing the second-ranked power play in the NHL, the Senators killed off a double-minor for high-sticking to Ryan starting at 5:09 of the third period.
"Getting that power play in the third, I think we should have scored one or two and taken away the game from there," Silfverberg said. "At the end of the night we got one point and we have to take that and move on."

They said it

"That's West Coast hockey. We know that it's been a grind. When you play back-to-back on the road and you've been out for 13 days, 14 days, it does take its toll. We had a day yesterday to re-energize ourselves with a day off. Hopefully the guys did some Christmas shopping. I don't know if they got me a gift or not. I'm not going to hold my breath." -- Ducks coach Randy Carlyle
"I love them all. Love them all. You can't ask me to single one out. Everyone I enjoy. I enjoy them all." -- Senators goaltender Mike Condon on his 24 saves
