Desjardins to make coaching debut for Los Angeles; Anaheim 1-5-2 in past eight

The Game

The Los Angeles Kings will play their first game under new coach Willie Desjardins when they face the Anaheim Ducks at Staples Center on Tuesday.

Desjardins will coach the rest of the season after John Stevens was fired Sunday. Desjardins went 109-110-27 in three seasons as coach of the Vancouver Canucks from 2014-17.

The Kings have lost seven of their past nine but defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 on Saturday in Stevens' final game as coach.

The Ducks are 1-5-2 in their past eight games after ending a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 overtime win against the Blue Jackets on Sunday.

 

Players to watch

Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler has five points (three goals, two assists) during a three-game point streak. He scored his first NHL hat trick against the Blue Jackets.

Kings forward Ilya Kovalchuk has six points (two goals, four assists) during a three-game point streak.

Status report

Kesler and Getzlaf are game-time decisions, Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. … De Leo was recalled from San Diego of the American Hockey League on Tuesday, giving Anaheim additional depth at center. … LaDue has practiced each of the past two days but will miss his third straight game.
