Iafallo had a big season for the University of Minnesota Duluth as a senior in 2016-17 with 51 points (21 goals, 30 assists) in 42 games. He had 121 points in 152 games in four seasons at UMD before signing a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings as an undrafted free agent on April 19, 2017.
"There's a lot of great organizations out there," Iafallo told NHL.com on Jan. 10, 2018. "This one was the best for me. They're really pushing on development. I'm a development kind of guy. I felt like everything was in a good spot."

Iafallo continued to impress during training camp and made the opening night roster for the 2017-18 season. He scored his first NHL goal in his 14th game, a 4-3 loss to the Nashville Predators on Nov. 4, 2017, and finished with 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists) and a plus-10 rating in 75 games while earning time on the Kings' top line with center Anze Kopitar and right wing Dustin Brown. He had one goal in three Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Iafallo's sister, Julianna, played four seasons at Ohio State.
