Johansson recorded 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 36 games during the 2020-21 season with the Minnesota Wild, his first with the team. Three of Johansson's six goals were game winners, which tied for second on the team and tied for the third-most of his career.
The 30-year-old has totaled 378 points (135 goals, 243 assists) in 684 regular-season games over the course of 11 seasons with the Washington Capitals (2010-11 to 2016-17), New Jersey Devils (2017-18 to 2018-19), Boston Bruins (2018-19), Buffalo Sabres (2019-20) and Minnesota Wild (2020-21). He has eclipsed the 40-point plateau five times, including setting a career high in goals (24) and points (58) during the 2016-17 season with the Capitals. Originally selected by Washington in the first round (24th overall) on the 2009 NHL Draft, Johansson ranks in the top 15 among 2009 draftees in every major scoring category, including ranking ninth with 243 career assists.
The six-foot-one, 203-pound forward has amassed 41 points (13 goals, 28 assists) in 97 career playoff games. He set career highs in playoff goals, assists and points during the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Bruins during Boston's run to the Stanley Cup Final, including scoring the game-winning goal in Game 7 of the Bruins' first-round matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs to advance to the Eastern Conference Second Round. His 97 career playoff games are the third-most among players drafted in 2009 and he ranks in the top five in the 2009 draft class in postseason assists, points and power-play goals.
Prior to making his professional debut, Johansson spent three seasons (2007-08, 2009-10) with Färjestad BK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), totaling 30 points (15 goals, 15 assists) in 87 regular-season games. Johansson added five assists in 16 postseason games, winning a championship with the team in 2009.
A native of Landskrona, Sweden, Johansson has represented his home country in international play five times: the 2007 and 2008 U-18 World Junior Championship, the 2009 and 2010 U-20 Championship and at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. He has medaled in four of the five tournaments, winning a bronze medal in 2007 and 2010 and a silver in 2009 and 2014. In all, Johansson has totaled 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 28 international games.
