The Seattle Kraken announced Thursday that forward Jaden Schwartz will have surgery on his hand and will be sidelined four to six weeks. Schwartz injured his hand during a Dec. 29 game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Climate Pledge Arena.
The 29-year-old from Wilcox, SK signed a five-year, $5.5 million per year contract with the Kraken on July 28, 2021, during the NHL's free agency period. He's played 29 games with Seattle this year and is second in team scoring with six goals, 14 assists, and 20 points.

Prior to joining the Kraken, Schwartz spent nine full seasons with the St. Louis Blues from 2012 to 2021. Previously, the Blues selected Schwartz with the 14th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
He's played 589 NHL games in his career and has scored 160 goals, 245 assists, and 405 points. At the end of the 2018-2019 season, he helped St. Louis win its first-ever Stanley Cup Championship as the Blues defeated the Boston Bruins in seven games. Along the way, Schwartz scored 12 goals and 20 points in 26 playoff contests.
With Seattle, Schwartz, a winger, primarily played on the top forward line with Jordan Eberle on the other wing.
