MIKAEL BACKLUND'S THOUGHTS:

ON DEFENSIVE PLAY:

"There are a lot of close games and we do keep it tight, but just don't score enough and when we do give up chances, they're usually big ones and they end up in the net. It's just a bad cycle right now and we've got to stop it. It's been going on too long. We've got four days to work on it and hopefully come out of this short break and start winning and playing better and finding ways to win."

ANDREW MANGIAPANE ON TURNING THE PAGE:

"Just takes everyone to kind of get out of this mess. It's not going to be on one guy. It's going to take all five when we're in tight hockey games like that. It's going to take everyone to pull through. I don't know how their goals went in, but it's always missed coverage or just a little breakdown in our D zone, and it's in the back of the net. It's got to be all five and it's going to take us all to get us out."

DARRYL SUTTER ON GENERATING OFFENCE:

"We did score three tonight. ... It's got nothing to do with anything other than - if you look at guys who haven't scored 5-on-5 goals this year that are looked on... it's not hard. I'm not going to get into that. It's got nothing to do with system or style. This team gave up too many goals tonight and gave up too many goals tonight to beat Toronto. We won't have a 30-goal scorer, a 40-goal scorer in today's game."

"Our work ethic, believe me, is not the issue"

ON FINISHING OFF GAMES:

"Our work ethic, believe me, is not the issue. ... The ability to play the last eight or nine minutes, it's a challenge. We've got, this team's got lots of work to do in preparing for a full schedule."
