It's impossible, now, to look back and not think about that meme with Michael Jordan on the set of The Last Dance.
"…and I took that personally."
It was, after all, a mere three weeks ago - when training camp was only a few hours old - that Sean Monahan stressed the importance of the upcoming season.

Not just for the team and its goal of making at a run at Lord Stanley, but for his own image as a top centre, as well.
So, here we are … four games in and No. 23 has been every bit the difference-marker he promised to be.
"This is a season where our general manager went out and got some really important pieces for us, and we understand that," Monahan said of his and longtime pal Johnny Gaudreau's torrid start to the campaign. "We both want to be important pieces, we want to help this team win, and that's our main goal right now, to win every game and be the best we can be every time we touch the ice."
Monahan, who struck for the game's opening tally on Sunday, thanks to a gorgeous, give-and-go with Gaudreau off the entry, has two goals and is tied for the team lead with five points.

"I have a lot of confidence right now," Monahan said. "You always want to play against the other teams' best players, for sure - but at the same time, you look at our lineup, we've got a really deep roster and anyone can play against anyone.
"I think it's a little easier to roll all four lines and that way because you're not as worried as much about matchups. Instead, you're going out there with confidence every shift and you want to be at your best every time you're on the ice.
"I really like where we're at right now and I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of damage we can do tomorrow."
