The Devils lost their final game of the 2016-17 season, 4-1, to Detroit at Joe Louis Arena. John Moore had the lone goal. Here's what we learned: 

1) The past few games, Taylor Hall has been getting some minutes on the penalty kill, which isn't typically part of his game. Head coach John Hynes said it's been an opportunity to see if it's a potential area of growth for him. He played 1:20 on the PK on Sunday.

DEVILS VS. ISLANDERS

Tonight is the fourth and final game between New Jersey and the NY Islanders this season. The Devils trail the season-series 1-2-0, but won the only game played thus far at Prudential Center (3-2, Feb. 18). The Devils were win-less at Barclays Center this season; falling, 4-6, on Feb. 19 and most recently, 1-2, on Mar. 31. New Jersey has not defeated the Islanders at Barclays Center since the club changed arenas in 2015-16 (0-5-1).

It is also New Jersey's final home game of 2016-17. The club is 21-9-3 in home-closers and is 16-14-3 overall in season-closing games. Tonight opens the Devils' 18th of 18 sets of back-to-back games. The Devils will end their 2016-17 season tomorrow at Joe Louis Arena (5PM). The club is 5-8-4 in first games and is 7-6-4 in second games of back-to-back contests. 

Tonight also marks the Devils final game against a Metropolitan Division opponent this season. The Devils are 11-15-3 vs. the Metro Division and are 18-27-7 overall against the Eastern Conference.

Travis Zajac's 34pts (12g-22a) vs. NYI is the most he has against any other opponent (tie, also vs. Phi.).

Hear from the Devils following the club's 7-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins at Prudential Center

The Devils lost, 7-4 on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Prudential Center despite goals by Stefan Noesen, John Moore, Taylor Hall and Kyle Palmieri. Here's what we learned: 

1) Although Cory Schneider allowed seven goals on 28 shots, the Devils skaters explained after the game that most of those goals were on them. Stefan Noesen elaborated, "They were all our fault. Cory's numbers don't look very good tonight, but I thought he played very well." Palmieri also shared the same sentiment: "We allowed them to have so many chances off the rush with backdoor tap-ins. He didn't even have a chance to make the first save. We hung him out to dry."

DEVILS VS. PENGUINS

Tonight is the fifth and final game between New Jersey and Pittsburgh in 2016-17. The Devils are 0-3-1 this season against the Penguins and are 0-1-0 at home. The club is looking to avoid going win-less vs. Pittsburgh for the first time since the 1994-95 season (0-1-2). New Jersey is hosting Pittsburgh for the second time this season after losing, 5-2, on Dec. 27 at Prudential Center.

The Devils have one game remaining against a Metropolitan Division opponent when they face-off against the NY Islanders on Saturday at Prudential Center. New Jersey is 11-14-3 vs. the Metro Division and is 18-26-7 against Eastern Conference opponents.

Kyle Palmieri has points (6g-2a-8pts) in each of his last six games against Pittsburgh.

Tonight is the fifth and final meeting between New Jersey and Philadelphia this season. The Devils are 3-1-0 against the Flyers, out-scoring their opponent, 14-6. New Jersey was shut out, 3-0, by Philadelphia on Saturday. The club is 14-4-1 overall vs. the Flyers since the 2012-13 season.

New Jersey has two home games remaining after tonight's contest, both of which are against Metropolitan Division opponents (PIT, NYI). The Devils are 10-14-3 vs. the Metro Division and are 17-26-7 against Eastern Conference opponents.

The Devils lost 2-1 to the New York Islanders, and here's what we learned. 

1) Keith Kinkaid made 36 saves on the night and has a career high of 21 starts in one season. We should expect to keep seeing him this season as Coach Hynes plans on rotating the goalies throughout the last five games of the season. 
 
Kinkaid is 7-12-3 on the season with a 2.70 GAA and .912 save percentage.

DEVILS AT ISLANDERS

Tonight is the third of four games between the Devils and Islanders in 2016-17. The clubs split their first two match-ups in a home-and-home series with New Jersey winning, 3-2, on Feb. 18 at Prudential Center and New York winning, 6-4, on Feb. 19 at Barclays Center. New Jersey is seeking its first road win against the Islanders, since they moved to the Barclays Center in the 2015-16 season (0-4-1). The teams will play their season-series finale Apr. 8 at Prudential Center.

Tonight begins New Jersey's 17th of 18 sets of back-to-back contests this season. The Devils will face-off against Philadelphia tomorrow at Wells Fargo Center at 7PM. The Devils are 5-7-4 in first games and are 7-5-4 in second games of back-to-back contests. New Jersey is 10-12-3 vs. Metro Division teams and is 17-24-7 overall against the Eastern Conference.

Devils fall 4-3 in a SO to Winnipeg: Three things we learned

The Devils picked up a point in a 4-3 shootout loss to Winnipeg despite goals by Beau Bennett, Taylor Hall and Stefan Noesen. Here's what we learned: 

1) Cory Schneider made 33 saves on Tuesday night. After the game, Hall explained that the club didn't do a good enough job maintaining possession and relied too heavily on Schneider to bail them out.
