Q&A Highlights: Kaiden Guhle

MONTREAL - There's nothing like a home-cooked meal, and Canadiens prospect Kaiden Guhle knows it.

After being traded to the Edmonton Oil Kings in December 2021, the Sherwood Park, AB native took advantage of living at home, spending time with family, and indulging in some of his favorite meals.
Earlier this summer, the defenseman caught up with fans during a Twitch Q&A. Here are some highlights.
Questions and answers have been edited for clarity and conciseness.
Guhle on being traded to the Edmonton Oil Kings:
It was cool. To be honest, I was a bit surprised when I saw that trade. There were a lot of pieces in there. But it was cool to know that a team was willing to do that and have that much belief in me. It gave me a little extra motivation to come in and play well and do well for the team. So, it was really cool to get to come home and live at home this year and see my mom and dad, which I never really get to do during a normal year, playing in a different city. It was cool to do that and see them more often during the year.
Guhle on which home-cooked meal he missed the most:
My mom makes these Maui ribs. They're unbelievable. Usually, we get those at least once or twice a month. So, I missed those a lot. […]

Guhle on playing a physical game:
It's something that developed the year I turned 17. I was never really a massive hitter or anything. It just kind of happened. I've got this mean streak in my game a little bit. It gets me mentally engaged and gets the adrenaline pumping, so any time I get a chance to lay a hit or something, that always gets me going. It's something that I developed and helps the team, so I'm willing to do it.
Guhle on his relationship with Justin Barron:
It was awesome. We were paired in camp for the World Juniors one day and had chemistry all of a sudden. We clicked and played really well together. Our games complement each other well and we stuck together once the team was made and throughout the whole tournament. He's an awesome player to play with, he's a good skater, he moves the puck well. He's an awesome guy too, someone who's really easy to get along with […] and is a really down-to-earth guy. So, when he got traded, I texted him right away and congratulated him. […] I was excited when I saw that he was traded to Montreal and hopefully one day we can play together again.

Guhle on what he wants to improve:
I think proving that I can play offensively, which I think I've done a little bit this year, getting more comfortable with the puck on my stick in the O-zone and everything like that. Besides that, I think just everything. There are always things you can improve on, whether it's puck moving, being better defensively. Just everything in my game. I feel like I can improve and get better to reach the next level.
