BUFFALO -The Bruins closed out their final long road trip of the season and returned home with a 3-2-0 record after a 7-0 drubbing of the Sabres on Sunday afternoon at KeyBank Center.
The two losses came at the beginning of the trip, as Boston fell to the Red Wings and the Blackhawks, but the Black & Gold bounced back with three consecutive victories across a four-day stretch to end the five-city journey with a winning record.
"To battle back, I think that says a lot about our team," said Charlie Coyle. "And you want to try to win every road trip…so to come back with three wins and win the road trip, 3-2, that was a big game."

The Briuns were in classic top-notch fashion on Sunday afternoon with coach Jim Montgomery saying he was impressed with the Bruins style of play these past three games. "When we're playing connected like that when we all know where each other are in our spots, it's fun to watch them go," said Montgomery.
With seven different goal scorers in the matinée victory, the depth of this Bruins team was put on full display once again. "It's a luxury behind the bench," said Montgomery. "You can leave people on the ice…Buffalo was trying to match up [Tage] Thompson's line against our third line or [Tomas] Nosek's line and we just leave them out there and we match up against one of the better offensive lines in the league because of our depth."

The Seven Goal Sunday

  • The dynamic duo started early, with Brad Marchand feeding Patrice Bergeron in the first 15 seconds for his 26th goal of the season and second of the road trip, giving the B's the 1-0 lead off the bat. It was the earliest goal Boston has scored since David Pastrnak's tally just 12 seconds in on Feb. 3, 2021.
  • Garnet Hathaway followed up with his second as a Bruin and 11th of the season off a nice stretch pass from Jakub Zboril, who was playing for the first time in nearly a month, giving the B's a 2-0 lead at 9:01 of the first.
  • Jake DeBrusk wanted in on the first period fun and potted his 22nd of the season and second of the five-game road trip off a brilliant feed from Coyle just 2:39 after Hathaway's marker. DeBrusk finished the game with a goal and three assists, matching his career-high of four points, which he had first accomplished on Feb. 28, 2022 with a hat trick and assist in Los Angeles.
  • Hampus Lindholm scored his 10th goal of the season and his second of the five-game road trip to give the Bruins the 4-0 lead halfway through the second period. It marks the third time in his NHL career he's reached 10 goals, and first time since 2017-18 in Anaheim.
  • Pastrnak kicked off the third period by scoring his 48th goal of the season on the power play. This matches Pastrnak's career high for goals and was his third goal of the trip, which he also finished with four assists for seven total points in five games.
  • Coyle added to the B's scoring fest just a minute after and closed the game with a goal and two assists. Coyle has also been on a hot streak, logging two goals and nine points in his last nine games.
  • Charlie McAvoy capped the scoring with 2:01 remaining when he nailed home his sixth of the season off a feed from Tyler Bertuzzi.

Swayman Shutout…Again:

Jeremy Swayman did not miss a beat on Sunday afternoon, stopping 26 of 26 shots to give him his fourth shutout of the season and second in a row for the first time in his career. It also marked the first time a Bruins goalie has put up back-to-back shutouts since Tuukka Rask in December 2011.
"It's special having never done that before," said Swayman. "But again, just a quick memory…forget about it as soon as you leave the locker room and just sort of, you know, put myself in position to perform next game."
As for how he gets it done, Swayman has been known to always stay present, taking it one shot at a time. "I think the biggest thing is just staying in the moment," said Swayman.
The Bruins are also blessed with the ability to have both Linus Ullmark and Swayman at the top of their game, switching between the two as often as they'd like, allowing for each to get the rest they need. "I just know when it's Linus in net he's going to do whatever it takes and when it's my night I'm going to do the same," said Swayman.
"He's always happy, energetic and he doesn't let a lot rattle him," added Coyle. "If he does, I don't see it. But he's a great goaltender. We're so lucky to have the goals that we do."

To Note

  • David Krejci was out of the lineup just to get some rest and allow some minor "bumps and bruises" to heal, per Montgomery, while Dmitry Orlov took his turn out of the lineup as part of the defensive rotation the B's have been utilizing to give everyone a rest down the stretch.
  • Zboril entered the lineup Sunday afternoon for the first time since February 23 and finished the game with an assist, three hits, and two blocked shots. "I think you have to give him a great, tremendous amount of credit because his attitude's been phenomenal," said Montgomery. "He comes to the rink every day to maintain the conditioning so that when he gets in, he's able to go in and play like he did tonight. We're going to be able to play him a lot more down the stretch."
  • Bergeron (goal, assist) notched his 242nd multi-point game, which is three shy of Rick Middleton for fifth most in franchise history, per NHL Stats.
