Notebook: Julien Returns from World Cup

BOSTON - Bruins head coach Claude Julien was not on the ice or behind the bench for the beginning of training camp due to his duties at the World Cup of Hockey, where he served as an assistant for Mike Babcock and Team Canada.
Despite his absence, however, the B's bench boss was never truly detached from the happenings back at Warrior Ice Arena.
Julien watched all three preseason games and was in contact with his staff on a daily basis. Now that he has returned - as a World Cup champion - he is pleased with how the team is progressing.

"I think all the guys did a good job, seems like the guys are dialed in right now," said Julien, who oversaw practice Saturday morning. "I think our coaches did a great job of preparing those guys."
With their leader back on the ice, things seemed a bit closer to normal for the Bruins players.
"A little surprising that he's back here that quickly," said Bruins winger David Pastrnak. "But, it shows that he really wants to be here and we're happy that he's here and we congratulated him."
The Black & Gold will be back to full capacity on Monday when Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and Zdeno Chara return to the club. All three participated in the World Cup of Hockey Final.
"They need some rest," said Julien. "I think they're going to get it. They're not showing up here until Monday morning. They will get probably some other days off, as well.
"The goal in talking with them is they didn't feel comfortable in taking too many days off straight, they didn't want to those that edge."
Julien said the team could begin making cuts following Saturday night's game in Philadelphia.
"I think we need to start cutting down numbers, probably after tonight," said Julien. "A lot of it depends on the showing of certain players."

Ehrhoff Expected in Camp Monday

Defenseman Christian Ehrhoff will join the team Monday on a PTO, according to Julien.
The free-agent blue liner played 48 games last season for the Los Angeles Kings and Chicago Blackhawks. Ehrhoff tallied two goals and 10 assists, to go along with 34 penalty minutes.
Julien got a good look at the 34-year-old, who suited up for Team Europe at the World Cup of Hockey.
"I thought if anything he's a good size defenseman, skates well, moves the puck well," said Julien. "What I liked about him - and I told him - was his compete level. If he comes here and competes the same way, he's a guy that could certainly make things interesting for us.
"A real good addition to our group here. He was deserving in my mind."

Moore is Day-to-Day

Bruins forward Dominic Moore missed practice on Saturday with an undisclosed injury.
"He's day-to-day. Nothing major. We'll see how he is on Monday," said Julien.

Julien Lauds Ortiz

Like everyone else around New England, Julien has been amazed by what he has seen from retiring Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, who is wrapping up his final regular season homestand at Fenway Park this weekend.
"He's finishing in style and you don't see that too often," said Julien. "By the time people retire, the game's kind of caught up to him big time, but not him. He doesn't seem to have missed a beat.
"Pretty impressed with the way he's handled this year and what he's done."
