As the Blackhawks wrap up their three-game road trip, they suffered another loss to the Edmonton Oilers with a 7-3 deficit heading into the All-Star break.
Head coach Luke Richardson felt that the team simply didn't play their normal style of play of staying patient. Against a team like Connor McDavid and the Oilers, it causes the players to try to keep the pace and chase rather that playing their style causing them to give up many chances.
"I think even the start of the game, we played well, the first period and even the first half of the game other than the two power play goals, and then I think we got impatient with ourselves," Richardson said. "I think, when we don't play patient, or we get spread out, and we lose our pace in our game, we don't really get much accomplished…"

PENALTY KILL CRUMBLES

Chicago's penalty kill couldn't hold back Edmonton's dominating power play unit after they allowed two power play goals on three opportunities. Even with the strong start in the first period, Taylor Raddysh noted the team simply couldn't come back after giving up those key chances.
"I think in the second we just had a slow start and just gave up a couple power play goals there which kind of made us fall behind and it was just this little trickle-down effect from there but just about to try to bounce back when we get in situations like that," Raddysh said.
Richardson felt that Petr Mrazek didn't see the first goal due to a bounce and the second goal went in due to little protection within the inside. No matter how much scouting goes into the Oilers' power play, they are still a tough team that no team can figure out.
"But I think we just got to be a little more patient and let them play on the outside and below the goal line and make them make them work for it a little bit harder," Richardson said. "But it's unfortunate and those guys are good at it."

DICKINSON GOES BACK-TO-BACK

Jason Dickinson scored the opening goal for the Blackhawks tonight to try and keep the team in the game. With this goal, it would be his second goal in his third game on the first line.

CHI@EDM: Dickinson rips it in from the slot

With a few games to build chemistry with each other, Patrick Kane described the way Dickinson can play defensively but also create different looks in the middle of the ice to help his game as well.
"He's gotten some good chances on some breakaway looks where he's driving that middle the ice and create space," Kane said. "So, if he keeps doing that, the defense is going to have to honor that and then it's just going to give me more space on the outside to make plays as well. So, he does a really good job at that."
