Twelve wins down, four more stood in the way of the Blackhawks and their second Stanley Cup of the decade.

"It was one of the scariest series I've ever been a part of," Andrew Shaw said looking back on the 2013 Stanley Cup Final. "Each night could go either way. Three of the six games went into overtime."

Having dispatched the reigning Cup champions in the Western Conference Final, the Blackhawks met their Original Six foes from Boston, Cup winners themselves in 2011, in the Final. Game 1 was almost took over Game 2 as the two teams played well past midnight at the United Center, deadlocked in a 3-3 tie into a third overtime.

"It was a long night. A lot of nerves, obviously," Shaw said. "We knew it wasn't going to be a pretty goal. We knew we just needed to get pucks to the net and just happened to be in the right spot at the right time."

It was Shaw himself in that right spot as the game worked past the midpoint of the third extra frame.

"Rozsival shot it from the point, Dave Bolland in the high slot tipped it and I was just skating towards the net after I beat my guy out of the corner," he continued. "It just hit me in the leg and ended up going in the net and ended the night."

Wearing a microphone as part of the NBC broadcast that night, Shaw professed his love for the true heroes of the night - 'I love shin pads!' he yelled as his teammates mobbed him in the corner.

The marathon game was finally over and Shaw had his fifth goal of the postseason, along with an assist from hours earlier in regulation. Chicago took an important 1-0 series lead and the confidence that even though it wouldn't be easy, they were three games from glory.

"The feeling was glad we came out with a win because coming out with a loss in a game like that is just so exhausting and draining that I think that win gave us a little extra boost," he said. "I just couldn't imagine losing that game in triple overtime, it would've been heartbreaking."
