2013 REWIND: Conference Quarterfinals - Game 1 vs. Minnesota

Somewhere, someone is in possession of a unique souvenir from one of the Blackhawks' most dramatic postseason victories in recent memory.

After Bryan Bickell banged home the game-winner in overtime of Game 1 of the 2013 Western Conference quarterfinals to give the Blackhawks a dramatic 2-1 victory over the Wild at the United Center, the winger was mobbed by teammates along the end boards and in the process managed to get his stick wedged between two panes of glass.

"So I'm celebrating and I don't have a stick but then I go back to get it and some fan had grabbed it between the glass and took into the stands," Bickell recalled. "He was like, 'Do you want it back? Do you want it back?' I was like, 'No, you can have it.' So it was kind of a cool moment when I had a fan take a game-winning stick."

2013 REWIND

Bickell's goal 16:35 into overtime on that April 30, 2013 day was just the first of many cool postseason moments that resulted in the Blackhawks capturing their second Stanley Cup in four seasons. Many of those moments will be showcased by Blackhawks.com and NBC Sports Chicago over the course of the next 16 days in a rewind of the Blackhawks' march to the '13 Cup.

The goal that got the Blackhawks, who had roared through the truncated 48-game regular season with a 36-7-5 record, off to a strong start in the playoffs came from what Bickell called "a really simple play" between himself and teammates Johnny Oduya and Viktor Stalberg.

"Oduya basically took a wrist shot off the glass and it went past the neutral zone over (Wild defenseman Ryan Suter's) head and then Stalberg, my linemate at the time, obviously had the speed to go chase it down," Bickell said. "I was coming off my wing and it turned into a 2-on-1. (Stalberg) put the brakes on and passed it over to me and I should have gone top-corner but I decided to go five-hole because I don't know why. I had enough space to sneak it through to get the win."

The Blackhawks had taken a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series and went on to advance to the Conference Semifinals in five games.

"One game doesn't win you a series but it does obviously help give you momentum," Bickell said. "To win it at home against Minnesota was a good start to the playoffs and I was just happy I was on the other end of the stick to bang it home for the team."

2013 Rewind: Bryan Bickell

The auspicious start was just the beginning of a postseason to remember for Bickell. The winger, who played parts of nine seasons with the Blackhawks from 2007-16, had a fine regular season with nine goals and 14 assists in 48 games but then exploded in the playoffs and finished with nine goals and eight assists in 23 contests.

"There was just something about playoffs that I enjoyed," Bickell said. "You look back … and there are always those superstars and there is always that one kind of underdog that helps them push, a big, physical guy that goes to the dirty spots and goes in front of the net and is physical," Bickell said. "There's always one guy who stands out in playoffs and I'm just happy in 2013 it was me."
