The Blackhawks fought back to tie the game twice in the third period, but the Carolina Hurricanes took a 4-3 win on Thursday night with a last-minute winner off the stick of Jesper Fast.
Dominik Kubalik, Brandon Hagel and Dylan Strome all scored on the night, while Kevin Lankinen made 27 stops in the loss.

Carolina opened the scoring off a turnover in Chicago's end midway through the first period. Dougie Hamilton picked up the loose puck and sent a pass the full width of the zone to Vincent Trocheck, who walked into the circle and put a wrister into the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.

2nd - 2:22 - Warren Foegele (Jordan Staal, Nino Niederreiter)

The Hurricanes doubled the lead early in the middle frame off a deflection in front. Warren Foegele, from just behind the goal line, sent a centering feed towards the slot that deflected off of Duncan Keith in front and past Kevin Lankinen for the 2-0 advantage.

2nd - 15:21 - Dominik Kubalik (Wyatt Kalynuk, Calvin de Haan)

Dominik Kubalik notched his 12th of the season late in the second to get the Blackhawks on the board at home. Rookie defenseman Wyatt Kalynuk sprung the winger on a breakaway with a stretch pass from inside the Chicago blue line that perfectly split the Hurricanes defense. Kubalik was able to muscle a backhander past James Reimer in goal to make it a 2-1 game.

3rd - 5:46 - Brandon Hagel (Kirby Dach)

The Blackhawks tied the game in the final frame off a deflection of their own as Brandon Hagel had a puck tip off his skate and in at doorstep. Kirby Dach took a shot that deflected off a pair of Hurricanes sticks in front and found its way to Hagel in front, who saw the puck bank off his right skate and into the net for a 2-2 tie.

3rd - 6:54 - Warren Foegele (Nino Niederreiter, Jordan Staal)

The deflections continued as Carolina regained the lead a minute later. For the second time on the night, Warren Foegele threw a puck towards the slot from behind the goal line, this time deflecting off the skate of Kevin Lankinen and in for a 3-2 advantage.

3rd - 10:24 - Dylan Strome (Connor Murphy, Mattias Janmark)

A deflection of an intentional time tied things up once again just past the midpoint of the final frame. Dylan Strome tipped home a Connor Murphy point shot from the slot for his second in as many games to tie the game back up, 3-3.

3rd - 19:31 - Jesper Fast (Vincent Trocheck, Brett Pesce)

The Hurricanes found the game-winner with just 28.9 seconds on the clock. Vincent Trocheck's shot off a rush was turned aside by Kevin Lankinen off a deflection in front, but the rebound fell right into the path of Jesper Fast who buried the difference maker for the win.
