new trier story

After two semifinal games in which anything seemed possible, Saturday morning at the United Center was a reminder: the road to a Girls Varsity Hockey Championship in Illinois still runs through New Trier.
"I got the chills and everyone just tackled me. It was amazing," New Trier goalie Abby Wieczorek said after the win. "At first I was pretty nervous, but once the game started I got into it. Everyone was just really positive out there."

The Trevians claimed their ninth state title and knocked off defending champions Glenbrook in a 5-1 victory on Saturday, March 24.
Kate McLaughlin, Julia Laden, Maddie Babnik and Mae Olshansky scored for New Trier, as the #1 seed in the state tournament showed just how many problems their attacking depth can cause an opponent.
New Trier jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, capitalizing on early chances and forcing the Titans to play from behind.
"We worked hard to put together a [plan] to shut them down. We did a really good job in the first period," New Trier head coach Bill Brush said.
The Trevians play a demoralizing style of hockey, as every opportunity for Glenbrook seemed to disappear before the Titans could capitalize.
An early Glenbrook power play? New Trier scored a shorthanded goal to grab the early lead. Hannah Jensen pulled one back for the Titans in the second period? New Trier scored again just a few minutes later.
By the time McLaughlin scored her second goal to make it 5-1 at the end of the third period, New Trier could start the celebration.
"We told the girls to be calm before the game and not let it get overwhelming," Brush said. "There's nothing like the UC."
