Goodman Theatre proudly announces a holiday partnership with the Chicago Blackhawks in two special events this December. On December 14, the Goodman welcomes Chicago Blackhawks Ambassador and Hall-of-Famer Denis Savard to the stage for a one-night-only cameo appearance in A Christmas Carol-the 39th annual production of Chicago's favorite holiday tradition, directed by Henry Wishcamper, starring Larry Yando as Ebenezer Scrooge. Savard will don costumes created especially for him and appear in select scenes, take a bow and sing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" at curtain call.
The fun continues off the stage with the #HawksAndHumbug social media contest, which launches on December 14. Fans who show their Blackhawks pride using #HawksAndHumbug on Twitter or Instagram will be entered to win a free VIP experience-a winner plus guest will watch the December 27 Hawks game with Savard and "Ebenezer Scrooge" at the United Center. Scrooge will lace up his skates and hit the ice for "Shoot the Puck" during intermission. For tickets to the December 14 "Blackhawks Night at Goodman Theatre," call the Box Office at 312.443.3800 or visit GoodmanTheatre.org and use promo code HUMBUG to save 25% on mezzanine seating. "We are honored to partner with the Chicago Blackhawks in a collaboration that perfectly exemplifies our work with our city's outstanding organizations," said Goodman Theatre Executive Director Roche Schulfer. "We warmly welcome hockey's legendary Denis Savard to our stage, and look forward to continuing the fun on the ice."
Added Chicago Blackhawks Ambassador and Hall-of-Famer Denis Savard, "I'm honored to be a part of the historic Goodman Theatre's tradition and appear on stage in A Christmas Carol, especially during this special holiday season. This unique partnership between the Blackhawks and the Goodman joins two of Chicago's most iconic establishments for what will be a most memorable experience for all."
Savard played 12 seasons of his 17-year National Hockey League career with the Blackhawks and currently ranks fourth in team history in goals (377) and second in assists (719). Chicago's first-round pick (third overall) in the 1980 NHL Draft, Savard became the second player in team history to record 100-plus points in a season (119) in 1981-82; he compiled three 100-point seasons as a Blackhawk. The seven-time All-Star holds the franchise single-season assist record with 87 (1981-82 and 1987-88), as well as the team's single-season points record (131 in 1987-88). Savard, a Pointe Gatineau, Quebec, native, also spent two seasons with the Tampa Bay Lighting and three seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, where he won the Stanley Cup in 1993. Savard was named a Blackhawks Ambassador on Nov. 13, 2008. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2000 and had his jersey retired by the Blackhawks in 1998.
