Seabrook Hero.00_00_49_11.Still002

Brent Seabrook and Stefanie Kirschner share the same sentiment when it comes to being called a hero.

Neither of them are comfortable with it.

But in their own ways, they each have been hailed as heroes - Seabrook for his exploits on the ice with the Blackhawks and Kirschner as a nurse helping save lives in the COVID-19 unit of her hospital.

"I am so uncomfortable being called a hero," Kirschner said during Wednesday's broadcast of 'Be Chicago: Together We Can' on NBC Sports Chicago.

"Me too," Seabrook replied.

A die-hard Blackhawks fan, Kirschner was among more than 700 front-line workers nominated to be honored for their work and, as a thank you, had a video discussion with Seabrook and moderators Eddie Olczyk and Pat Boyle.

It was then that Seabrook, who has helped the Blackhawks capture three Stanley Cup championships during his 15 seasons with the team, told Kirschner that she was a hero in his eyes.

"You're the real hero out there," Seabrook said. "You guys are doing a great job in keeping us all safe and healthy and taking care of everybody. It's pretty awesome to hear all the stories that you guys are going through."

Seabrook surprises COVID-19 nurse

Kirschner has been isolated from her two daughters while working long shifts at the hospital and helping treat those battling the COVID-19 virus.

"The nurses have about two or three patients, sometimes four if one is ready to go home," she said. "What I want to emphasize to people (is) we have a lot of people recovering from this and going home. I feel like everyone's worried and nervous and scared but there are so many people that are recovering and going home. I want to get that out there to focus on the positive.

"I am so happy to be that person to be sitting there with the patients in their rooms because they don't have a lifeline to the outside world except for us," Kirschner continued.

As the call wrapped up, Seabrook wanted to thank Kirschner "for everything you do along the frontlines. Personally, my brother (Keith) is having a baby … in like two or three days up in Canada. So people like you are really keeping us together and keeping the world safe. It means a lot to me and I'm sure it means a lot to everybody else. So thank you for everything, Stefanie."

A giddy Kirschner responded, "Thank you. You made my life right now."
