5 takeaways: Stars do it again, take care of business on home ice

DALLAS -- The Stars are putting other teams on notice. On Friday, they won for the fifth time in their past six outings, defeating the mighty Colorado Avalanche 3-1 in front of capacity crowd of 18,532 at American Airlines Center.

This time it was Joe Pavelski who inflicted damage early, scoring twice before fans could even blink to give the surging Stars a multi-goal lead.
Jake Oettinger was impressive once more, stopping 32 saves to improve his record to 4-0.
The Stars' victory, which snapped Colorado's six-game winning streak, came just three days after a 4-1 triumph over Edmonton.
Here are the five takeaways of the game:

MR. 400!

Pavelski reached a significant milestone in epic fashion on Friday night, scoring goals 19 seconds apart to put the Stars up 2-0. His second one served as career goal No. 400 and placed him in rare company.
The 37-year-old became the 10th American-born player to reach 400 career goals and the first since Patrick Kane did so on Feb. 28, 2021. Pavelski is also one of just eight active NHL players to record 400 goals and the first since Jeff Carter did so on Oct. 14, 2021.

OETTINGER DOES IT AGAIN

Oettinger is on a roll and the Stars are feeding off it. The 22-year-old faced arguably the toughest task in the NHL on Tuesday in a battle against Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, and the result was a 4-1 win.
Friday, he had to go up against Nazem Kadri (10-game point streak) and Cale Makar (goals in four straight) and the result was a 3-1 victory despite a late goal to the aforementioned Makar.

CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP

The Stars' power play has been lights out for a while now, and they delivered with a huge goal on Friday to give them added insurance.
Denis Gurianov's power-play strike with 5:34 remaining in the second gave the Stars a three-goal lead and made the hill that much steeper for the Avs. It gave Gurianov points in four straight games (two goals, two assists) and goals in consecutive contests.
The Stars have scored power-play goals in 10 of their past 11 games and entered Friday's matchup with the third-best power-play conversion in the NHL (28%, 14-for-50 overall), including 8-for-23 at home (34.8%).

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF HOME ICE

The Stars have reeled off five straight wins at American Airlines Center and have outscored the opposition 21-7 over that span. The margin of victory over these past five games is noteworthy, too.
It started with consecutive 5-2 wins over Philadelphia and Detroit. Then, the Stars posted 4-1 victories over St. Louis and Edmonton before taking care of Colorado 3-1 on Friday.

RIDING THE MOMENTUM

After struggling to string together wins for the first month of the season, the Stars have hit their stride. Now, the key is to maintain that momentum. They've taken care of business at home with five straight wins. Next up? Saturday night against the Arizona Coyotes at Gila River Arena.
