Laubach (1)

Get to know the hometown kid in the latest edition of Oceans Unknown! If you're new here, welcome, and the "Oceans Unknown" series gives you an opportunity to get to know your favorite Sharks off the ice in places that showcase life beyond the rink. For this one, we got a tour of downtown San Jose with Sharks Prospect and 2022 Draft Pick, Reese Laubach, to learn more about him growing up here in the Bay Area.

Reese Laubach was born on November 20, 2003 right here in San Jose. The hometown kid grew up playing for the San Jose Jr. Sharks before heading off to Northstar Academy up in Minnesota. In 2022, Reese got the call of a lifetime as the team he grew up watching, the team who inspired him said his name and he was officially a Shark.

Growing up in the Bay and being a Sharks fan was everything to Reese. Season tickets, the chomp, and of course the Shark Head entrance. A fun fact from his time watching the Sharks? He still remembers his seat. Section 109, row 8, seats 3. He also remembers the "Penny Seat" from when he was younger. A seat up in 214 of the then "San Jose Arena" or "HP Pavillion" where a penny and been lodged into the armrest. He hasn't been back up to that seat in a while, but he thinks it's still there.

From his spot in 109, he watched as Marleau, Setoguchi, and Thornton showed that San Jose was a hockey town. His favorite player though was Joe Pavelski, but don't tell his new Development Coach that.

Reese didn't go to the games alone. He also has a younger brother, though he was more into baseball after a while than hockey. Maybe we will be able to see his brother at Oracle one day.

As always, for Oceans Unknown we got a look into the fashion of your Sharks. Reese loves his casual clothes but also loves being able to wear his suits, especially on game days. For the casual days, you can catch him wearing beach-inspired clothing and colors. For his suits, how did he describe what he looks for in one? "Don't be boring!" You can likely catch him in blues and purples but his favorite suits are plaid. Blue or purple plaid preferably of course.

So we know what he loves to wear now what kind of music does he love? That would be country. His current favorite is Morgan Wallen but he couldn't pick a favorite song. Too many to choose.

So what's next for our 408 kid? While he is a Shark, he is also a Nittany Lion and it's what he is looking forward to after his first Development Camp. The chance to grow, get better at hockey and experience college by attending Penn State in the fall. 2,700 miles across the country continuing his journey to his ultimate goal of playing at the Tank. Maybe one day being able to inspire a kid sitting in section 109, row 8, seat 3 to follow their dream.
