The San Jose Sharks open their four-game Western Canada road trip tonight against the Winnipeg Jets.
The Sharks are coming off a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday night at SAP Center against the Arizona Coyotes. It was the team's first game since the All-Star break and bye-week. Brent Burns scored the overtime goal and tied Scott Niedermayer for first on the NHL's list for overtime goals by a defenseman with 13. Joe Pavelski scored his team-leading 28th goal of the season while Kevin Labanc registered his sixth goal of the season.
The San Jose Sharks face the Winnipeg Jets for the second time this season. Last meeting on December 20, the Sharks dropped 5-3 to the Jets. Evander Kane led all Sharks skaters with two points - one goal and an assist. Erik Karlsson registered his 22nd assist of the season to push his assist streak to seven games and became the first defenseman to reach seven consecutive games with an assist this year. Joe Thornton tied M. Dionne for 10th on the NHL's all-time assist list in the contest. Joonas Donskoi scored his earned his 100th career NHL point. Tonight is Pete DeBoer's 300th game as the head coach of the San Jose Sharks.
Winnipeg has won seven consecutive games and 11 of their last 13 contests at Bell MTS Place. The Jets' seven-game home winning streak is their longest of the season and is tied with the Sharks for the longest active home winning streak in the league and two games shy of Tampa Bay's season-high nine-game home winning streak. The Jets are coming off a 9-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday Night.
