The balls didn't tumble exactly the way the Senators were hoping during the NHL Draft Lottery on Saturday night in Toronto but, thanks to a quality group of prospect available, the options look promising for the 4th overall selection.

"We're disappointed we didn't get #1," said general manager Pierre Dorion. "So for us, the product of our bad season is that we know we're going to get a real good player at #4."
Statistically, the 4th spot was the most likely spot for the Senators to pick (with a 33.3% possibility heading into the draw) so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that that is where they ended up. Thankfully, slipping a few spots is made easier thanks to a very strong field of draft eligible prospects this year.
"Where ever you pick in the top 10, we felt as a group, that you're going to get a really good player," Dorion said about the depth of the draft. "It's the first time in 17 years that this organization that we're going to pick in the top 5 and we're really excited about that."

The Buffalo Sabres ultimately ended the night taking home the top pick in the coming draft while the Sens were leapfrogged by both the Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens who will select at #2 and #3 respectively.
In addition to the 4th overall selection, Ottawa acquired a first round pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Derick Brassard deal so while they wait to find out the exact position of the pick, the Sens are set to get sorting out what has been called a very strong first round.
"We know that we've got two picks in the first 31," said Dorion. "So most likely, we'll get two guys off our top 25 list and that's great for this organization. That's a huge step forward."
Dorion was also adamant that the Sens will keep the 4th overall pick, deferring giving the Colorado Avalanche their first round selection next year as part of the Matt Duchene trade from November.
