Tonight isn't the first time Chris Tierney returns to San Jose as a member of the Ottawa Senators.

But the last time he played at the SAP Centre, it was a memorable moment for the former Shark, as he scored the overtime winner on March 7, 2020 in a 2-1 Sens win.
"Not going to forget that one," Tierney said Tuesday with a smile. "It's definitely nice and it was my first overtime winner too so it was a little sweeter it was back here."
Tierney, who was the 55th overall pick in 2012, played 284 games with the Sharks from 2014-18 and was part of the team that went to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2016. He scored 41 goals with the organization including a career best 17 in 2017-18 before he was traded to Ottawa as part of the Erik Karlsson deal.
"Lots of good memories here," Tierney said. "Coming to the rink, driving through the city, [it gave me] flashbacks and remembering the times I had here. It's always nice coming back and seeing people and re-live those moments.
"The first place you play, you never forget."

All in all, the Keswick, Ont., native has a goal and two assists in five previous contests with the Sharks. However, Tierney isn't the only former Shark plying his trade with the Sens nowadays. Dylan Gambrell, who the Sens acquired on Oct. 24, will play his first game against his former teammates tonight. The 60th overall pick in 2016, the 25-year-old scored 10 goals in 110 games with the Sharks.
"It's good to be back to see some familiar faces," Gambrell said. "But it's mixed emotions. I enjoyed my time here and everybody was great to me but at the same time, being on a different team now, it's like any other game. Once you get on the ice you're not friends with anybody else.
"Be friends after the game but during the game, we want to give it to them."
In five games this season with Ottawa, Gambrell has two shots, one block, nine hits and is averaging 10:48 a game. He's also won 62.8 per cent of his faceoffs.
"This is a team that not only waived you, but traded you, so I would think he'll be a little bitter coming back and we're going to give him every opportunity to prove them wrong," Senators head coach D.J. Smith said.
San Jose is coming off a 2-1 overtime win against the Carolina Hurricanes Monday night and at 9-8-1 sit fifth in the Pacific Division.
"They play a really solid game," Tierney said. "They're north-south. They chip pucks in, they forecheck well.
"They have good structure so we're going to have to bring our game and make sure we're executing and not turning any pucks over."
