The Buffalo Sabres acquired defensemen Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday in exchange for defenseman Ryan Johnson.
Jones, 29 years old and a left shot, has played 255 career NHL games, most recently seven with the Penguins to start last season. The 2015 fourth-round pick had three points in four games to start this season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL). He provides additional depth at the position with Rasmus Dahlin day to day with an upper-body injury.
Laatsch, 24, played 10 AHL games last season. The lefty was a 2021 seventh-round pick and played four seasons at University of Wisconsin.
Johnson departs the organization after parts of four pro seasons, including 47 NHL games. He was originally a first-round pick by the Sabres in 2019.
