BUFFALO, NY -The 2018 World Junior Championship opened with a surprise as the Czechs defeated the Russians 5-4, and one Oilers prospect helped lead the way.
Ostap Safin had a nice game for the Czech team, scoring one goal and adding an assist. Safin made it 2-1 for his country at 7:28 of the first period, batting in a fluttering puck from the top of the crease for his first goal of the tournament.
He finished the game playing 14:13, logging two shots on goal.
