"He just said he felt a lot better the second day than he did the first, (and) that he probably needs a couple more skates, good skates, so we skated him both days, and then after practice he said he needed a couple more," Flames coach Glen Gulutzan said. "It's pretty remarkable, though. I thought he was very good yesterday. For a 45-year-old guy to come in with no training camp and come in and he's arguably one of our best guys yesterday, but he needs a couple more days to get up to game speed."
Goaltender Steve Mason will make his second straight start for the Jets. Mason, who signed a two-year contract with an average annual value of $4.1 million on July 1, was pulled 36 seconds into the third period after allowing five goals on 20 shots in a season-opening 7-2 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
