VAN ANA 11.21 recap

ANAHEIM -- Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and an assist for the Anaheim Ducks in a 4-3 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Honda Center on Wednesday.

Ondrej Kase scored for the second straight game, and John Gibson made 25 saves in his 100th NHL win for the Ducks (9-9-5), who ended a three-game losing streak. It was Anaheim's second win in regulation in 16 games (4-8-4).
"We're taking small steps right now," Getzlaf said. "We're getting better and better. We're going to continue to build and try to get this group pushing the right way every night and every shift."

Nikolay Goldobin and Bo Horvat each had a goal and an assist, and Jacob Markstrom made 33 saves for the Canucks (10-12-2), who have lost seven in a row.
Kase gave the Ducks a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 7:14 of the second period.
After Markstrom made the save on Jakob Silfverberg's point-blank shot at 7:02, Kase beat Markstrom glove side on a shot from the top of the left face-off circle with Ryan Kesler providing a screen.

VAN@ANA: Kase rips power-play goal past Markstrom

"We can't blame [Markstrom]," Horvat said. "He's been outstanding for us, making key saves at big times. We're in every single one of these games, and it's frustrating not to get two points. We need to work through it."
Josh Mahura, one of four rookie defensemen in the Ducks lineup, had an assist on Kase's goal for his first NHL point.
Adam Henrique scored to make it 3-1 at 7:09 of the third period.

VAN@ANA: Henrique goes top shelf to light the lamp

Anaheim's fourth power play of the game had just expired, but Vancouver forward Tyler Motte was without a stick when Henrique shot from the bottom of the left circle and beat Markstrom short side.
"We had some chances on the power play, finally got some room and found some space," Henrique said. "I was trying to look for [Pontus Aberg] backdoor, but there was nothing there, so I just tried to go short side and found some room."
Goldobin made it 3-2 at 8:07 of the third when he tipped Jake Virtanen's shot from the right wall past Gibson's glove as the goalie tried to cover the near post.

Rookie forward Kalle Kossila put the Ducks up 4-2 with his second NHL goal at 10:53.
Nick Ritchie won the puck on the forecheck and passed it to Brian Gibbons, who made a quick centering pass to Kossila for the one-timer.
Horvat skated to the left hash marks on the power play and redirected Goldobin's pass from the top of the left circle to make it 4-3 at 15:16.
"I liked our push at the end," Vancouver coach Travis Green said. "We had a chance to tie it, but it was a close game. We have to find a way though. We're making a couple little mistakes that are costing us, quite frankly, and we have to clean that up."
Getzlaf gave Anaheim a 1-0 lead at 10:13 of the first period.

VAN@ANA: Getzlaf puts puck between his legs, scores

He started the scoring play by banking a long pass off the wall in the neutral zone to Rickard Rakell. Vancouver defenseman Troy Stecher swiped at the puck just after it crossed the blue line, but it hit Rakell and slid into the slot.
Defenseman Derrick Pouliot tried to clear the puck from in front of his crease, but it went right to Getzlaf trailing the play. He pulled the puck to his backhand as he cut through the slot and lifted the puck high in the net.
Pouliot tied the game 1-1 at 4:15 of the second.

VAN@ANA: Pouliot buries great feed from Gagner

Horvat won a face-off in the Anaheim zone, and the puck went to Sam Gagner. He skated to the right wall and waited for Pouliot to cut toward the crease before feeding him for a tap-in from the bottom of the left circle.
"We're trying to come to work every night," Pouliot said. "Something has got to give. Eventually, we are going to break through. We've just got to keep playing our game."
