RALEIGH -The Coyotes ended a weeklong four-game journey vs. Eastern Conference teams with a 3-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena on Sunday afternoon.
It was a disappointing finale for Arizona, which was hoping to build off a dramatic come-from-behind victory at the New York Rangers on Friday night in the trip's third game. The Hurricanes had other plans and scored three even-strength goals against rookie goalie Adin Hill, who made 24 saves.

"They were the better team," Coyotes Head Coach Rick Tocchet said. "I thought we hung in there for a little bit, but then they were on pucks a little bit more than us … We didn't have enough energy offensively."

Tocchet: We Were Chasing

Rookies Warren Foegele and Andrei Svechnikov scored goals 4:00 apart in the second period, and Sebastian Aho added an insurance goal early in the third for Carolina, which avenged an overtime loss to the Coyotes in Glendale on Nov. 2.

Tocchet did not like his team's lack of toughness.
"I thought we played a soft game today," Tocchet said. "… I didn't see much drive on some guys going to the net. We had a couple chances and we missed a couple empty nets. They only had three chances in the second and they scored two goals. So, that's the difference. They scored on their (chances), and then obviously we were chasing the game in the third."
• The Coyotes appeared to score a goal at 4:07 of the third period when Alex Galchenyuk, who was cruising the low slot, redirected a shot by Kevin Connauton past goalie Petr Mrazek. On-ice officials quickly waved off the goal ruling that Galchenyuk struck the puck with a high stick. A video review followed and the on-ice call was upheld.
• Galchenyuk skated 13:48 and took one shot on goal in his first game back in the lineup after missing three games because of a lower-body injury.
"We had a couple chances and didn't capitalize on them," Galchenyuk said. "We've got to go to the net more, be in front of the net, and got to get shots through ... They did capitalize on a couple of our mistakes and that cost us ... It's really disappointing. We were pretty positive going into the third because the guys made a comeback in the other game (on Friday). We tried to get something going and it didn't happen, so we've got to keep pushing and bounce back at home."
The Coyotes, who finished the trip 1-3-0, begin a three-game homestand on Tuesday vs. the New York Islanders.

Galchenyuk on Return to Lineup

Josh Archibald, who played on a line with Galchenyuk and center Brad Richardson, took three of Arizona's 23 shots and delivered a team-high six hits.
Archibald said the team was disappointed it couldn't bring the mojo it gained from Friday's dramatic win at Madison Square Garden into Sunday's game.
"That was a big momentum swing for us against New York," Archibald said. "To be able to come in here and keep that rolling would have been really nice ... To win a game you've got to play all 60 minutes. We didn't do that today."
He added: "We just put ourselves in a hole. We got away from our game, had a couple turnovers and got behind the eight ball. We've got to stop doing that to ourselves."
• The Coyotes, who entered the game as the NHL's stingiest penalty-killing team, were called for six penalties but did not allow a power-play goal.
Derek Stepan, the hero of Friday's game at New York, won 11 of 19 face-offs and took a team-high four shots.
