NEW YORK - The Canadiens dropped the first game of their New York back-to-back, losing 2-1 to the Islanders at UBS Arena on Saturday.

The Islanders paid tribute to Laval native and Hall of Famer Mike Bossy, who spent the entirety of his legendary 10-year career on Long Island, prior to puck drop. Bossy died in April at the age of 65.

Head coach Martin St-Louis did not make any changes to his lineup. Sam Montembeault got the start in goal once again.
New York got on the board early in the opening frame, when Casey Cizikas tipped Noah Dobson's point shot to beat Montembeault at 2:25 of the first.
Then, Anthony Beauvillier buried the rebound off Scott Mayfield's blast from the blue line to make it a 2-0 game at the 6:03 mark.
The Habs headed to the room trailing 2-0, with the Islanders leading 14-11 in shots in the first.
Montreal would have to do with one less forward in the second period, as Jake Evans left the game after getting hurt on a faceoff late in the first and did not return. The team announced that it was a lower-body injury.
The period ended up being a scoreless affair. The Islanders outshot the Canadiens 14-8 in the frame.
The Habs broke Islanders' goalie Ilya Sorokin's shutout bid when Nick Suzuki picked up the puck near the slot and brought it towards the crease before chipping it up from his backhand, over the netminder's pad and in for his 16th of the season.

Montreal wasn't able to net the equalizer before time ran out. Montembeault made 36 saves in the loss.
The Canadiens aren't going too far after the game, as they face the Rangers at Madison Square Garden at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
