Flyers team scope

The Philadelphia Flyers have 74 points, seven behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference, with 11 games remaining. "We're in the fight," coach Dave Hakstol said. "Every two points is critical. We don't have any more we can let go. For us, like I said, we're in the fight and we've got to make sure we can take care of things we can control and be at our very best." The Flyers begin a four-game road trip Tuesday and are 12-19-4 away from Wells Fargo Center. Steve Mason will start in goal for the Flyers. He's 6-0-1 with a 1.34 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage in eight career games against the Winnipeg Jets; the Flyers have won six straight and are 9-1-2 in their past 12 games against Winnipeg. "We've got to have a good game here," forward Wayne Simmonds said. "[The Jets] are a big, strong team. They got a lot of offensive power so turn pucks over, get pucks deep in their zone and play our cycle game."

Jets team scope

The Jets are 10 points behind the St. Louis Blues for the second wild card from the Western Conference with 10 games remaining. Defenseman Ben Chiarot will not play because of an upper-body injury. Chiarot missed the final 9:03 of the third period in a 5-4 win against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. Chiarot is the fifth defenseman out of the lineup because of injury. Defenseman Nelson Nogier was recalled from Manitoba of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis on Monday and will play his first NHL game. "There's going to be some nerves there, probably for sure, and lots of excitement," he said. "I'm going to soak it all in, just take it shift by shift out there tonight." Coach Paul Maurice said Nogier will play with different partners. "He does a few things quite well," Maurice said. "[He] skates well, big man (6-foot-2, 191 pounds), sees the ice defensively, picks up his quick reads. That's all we're looking for early in the game, simple, fast and with a smile on your face." Goaltender Michael Hutchinson will make his first start since Jan. 16.

Status report

Manning won't play Tuesday but could play later in the road trip, Hakstol said. … Trouba and Myers will travel with the team on their road trip, which starts at the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, but likely won't play, Maurice said. Enstrom is taking part in light skating but there is no timetable for his return. Postma is not healing as quickly as the Jets hoped and a decision will be made regarding his playing status for the rest of season in the next few days.
