WSH@STL: Schwartz narrowly tips puck home

The St. Louis Blues scored four straight goals in a 4-3 preseason win against the Washington Capitals at Enterprise Center on Friday.
Washington was the last undefeated team in the preseason.

Jaden Schwartz scored in the first period before Brayden Schenn, Valdimir Tarasenko and Tyler Bozak (power play) scored in the second period to give St. Louis a 4-2 lead.
Travis Boyd, Carl Hagelin and Chandler Stephenson scored, and Braden Holtby made 21 saves for Washington, which won its first four preseason games. It ends the preseason Sunday at the Carolina Hurricanes.
Ville Husso made 24 saves for St. Louis, which plays at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.
Justin Faulk was plus-1 playing 22:10 in his first game for St. Louis after the defenseman was traded by the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
The Capitals visit the Blues for the regular-season opener on Oct. 2.

Maple Leafs top Red Wings in shootout

The Toronto Maple Leafs recovered for a 4-3 shootout preseason win against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena.
Givani Smith scored for Detroit with 1:43 remaining in the third period to tie it 3-3.
Jeremy Bracco scored the only goal of the shootout in the first round, and Hudson Elynuik, Matt Read and Darren Archibald scored for the Maple Leafs, who outshot the Red Wings 37-18. Michael Hutchinson played the first two periods and allowed two goals on 10 shots. He was replaced by Joseph Woll, who made seven saves in the third.
Evgeny Svechnikov and Chris Terry scored, and Jonathan Bernier made 34 saves for Red Wings.
The teams end their preseason schedule against each other at Toronto on Saturday.

Schneider, Devils shut out Blue Jackets

Cory Schneider made 32 saves, and the New Jersey Devils won their final preseason game, 2-0 against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
Schneider had a .952 save percentage in four preseason games (118 saves on 124 shots). New Jersey was 5-2-0.
Taylor Hall, who missed the final 47 games last season because of a knee injury, scored his second goal of the preseason at 8:32 of the first period. Travis Zajac scored a power-play goal at 8:20 of the third period.
Joonas Korpisalo made 25 saves for Columbus, which ends its preseason schedule against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday.

Johansen gives Predators OT win against Hurricanes

Ryan Johansen scored with 1:24 left in overtime to give the Nashville Predators a 2-1 preseason win against the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.
Anthony Richard scored in the second period, and Juuse Saros made 30 saves for Nashville, which won five of its six preseason games.
Jordan Staal scored in the first period for Carolina, who end the preseason Sunday against the Washington Capitals. Petr Mrazek did not allow a goal making 19 saves in two periods, and James Reimer made nine saves.
Joel Edmundson had an assist playing 19:01 in his first game for Carolina after the defenseman was traded by the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

Kings recover, defeat Golden Knights

Kyle Clifford scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period for the Los Angeles Kings in a 3-2 win against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena.
Clifford made it 3-2 at 11:01 after Paul Stastny and Brayden McNabb scored 1:14 apart in the third period to tie it 2-2 at 5:38.
Michael Amadio and Alex Iafallo scored, and Jonathan Quick made 40 saves for Los Angeles, which went 4-2-1 in the preseason.
Max Pacioretty had two assists, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves for Vegas, which lost for the second time in six games and ends its preseason schedule against the San Jose Sharks on Sunday.
