The Rangers haven't won on the road in regulation since a 4-3 victory at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 5. New York is 3-6-2 on the road since that win and has lost the first two games of a four-game trip. New York is 2-5-0 overall since Jan. 7 and has dropped to the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. The Rangers, Penguins and New York Islanders each have 53 points, but the Rangers have played one fewer game.
Anaheim's four-game home-winning streak ended with a 6-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Sunday. The Ducks are 6-2-1 in their past nine home games and 6-3-1 in their past 10 overall but trail the Calgary Flames by three points for third place in the Pacific Division.

Players to watch

Rangers center David Desharnais has three points (one goal, two assists) in his past four games. He had two assists in a 4-1 win against the Ducks at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 19.
Anaheim defenseman Josh Manson is eighth in the NHL and leads Western Conference defensemen with a plus-21 rating. He had an assist against the Rangers last month.

Status reports

Shattenkirk had surgery Monday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Hayes alternated in line rushes during the morning skate but will miss his sixth consecutive game. Kreider will miss his 12th straight. … Kase remained with the top line during practice Monday after being moved up during the loss to the Sharks and assisting on a third-period goal by Getzlaf. Kase has seven points (three goals, four assists) in the past five games.
