Mikael Granlund lifts Wild past Kings

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Mikael Granlund scored 12 seconds into overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a 5-4 win against the Los Angeles Kings at Xcel Energy Center on Monday.
Ryan White had one goal and one assist in his Wild debut after being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday, and Nino Niederreiter, Jordan Schroeder and Jason Zucker also scored for Minnesota (40-14-6).

"They just kind of gave us the base of what was going to happen out there and just told us to go out there and play hockey," said White, who arrived shortly before the game. "I think that's the way to go about it on the day like this. That's what I was telling myself all day, that it's just hockey, so just go out there and play. I got lucky. I had a couple good linemates out there tonight that made things easy on me. I was just trying to do the right things and got rewarded."
The Wild returned from the League's mandatory five-day break and moved two points ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks for first place in the Central Division and Western Conference with three games in hand. Devan Dubnyk made 26 saves.
Minnesota was without forwards Zach Parise and Jason Pominville, who were diagnosed with the mumps prior to the game.
Nicholas Shore, Tanner Pearson, Jake Muzzin and Marian Gaborik scored for Los Angeles (30-27-5). Jonathan Quick made 30 saves.
"It doesn't matter if we score four when we give up five," Shore said. "We had a couple breakdowns and [Quick] had some huge saves for us tonight. We're just going to have to get after it tomorrow."
Shore opened the scoring with his first goal in 21 games on a one-timer from the slot at 8:15 of the first period.

Niederreiter tied the game with a wrist shot at 13:00. He has 10 points (five goals, five assists) in his past nine games.
Pearson gave Los Angeles a 2-1 lead with a shot that deflected off Jonas Brodin's stick at 15:01 of the first period.
Schroeder tied the game at 4:23 of the second period with a shot that deflected off Shore's stick.
Muzzin restored the lead for Los Angeles at 11:30 of the second with a shot from the blue line that deflected over Dubnyk.
White deflected Niederreiter's shot for his first goal with the Wild at 13:05 to make it 3-3, but Gaborik tied it 1:57 into the third. Gaborik had gone nine games without a point.
Zucker tied it for Minnesota with 12:56 remaining in the third period.
"I think a lot of times we've seen that [we've come back like] that before, so everybody knows we can do it and it's not a big deal if we go down," Granlund said. "Obviously we'd like to lead the game, but sometimes it's like that."

Goal of the game

Granlund skated from his own blue line with puck, blew past Kings forwards Jeff Carter and Anze Kopitar, eluded defenseman Drew Doughty and beat Quick on a forehand shot for the winning goal.

Save of the game

Quick slid across his crease to make a pad save on Chris Stewart's backhand shot at 2:20 of the first period.

Unsung performance of the game

Kings defenseman Braydon McNabb got his stick made a nice play against Wild center Eric Staal to prevent a shot while Quick was out of position.

Highlight of the game

Niederreiter deked and beat Quick stick-side for his team-leading 20th goal of the season.
