Shore, a third-round pick (No. 82) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2011 NHL Draft, is a defense-minded center with strong hockey sense and a knack for keeping the puck out of dangerous areas. Add in his ability to win face-offs and his value comes into sharper focus.
The middle of three brothers who each played at the hometown University of Denver and were drafted by NHL teams, Shore made his NHL debut on Jan. 17, 2015, against the Anaheim Ducks. He got his first NHL point four days later in his third NHL game, getting an assist on a Jeff Carter power-play goal in a 4-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks.

Shore scored his first NHL goal in a 3-2 win against the New York Islanders on March 26, 2015. Among players who took at least 100 face-offs that season, Shore's 53.8 percent success rate led the Kings and was best among NHL rookies.
On Nov. 14, 2015, Shore scored the first game-winning goal of his career, with 1:37 remaining in a 4-3 win against the Edmonton Oilers. Shore made his Stanley Cup Playoff debut April 16, 2016, in Game 2 of the first round against the Sharks. He had two hits and won four of eight face-offs.
Shore had 17 points (six goals, 17 assists) in 56 games for the Kings in 2016-17 and was on his way to bettering those numbers in 2017-18 when the Kings traded him to the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 14, 2018. But Shore spent just six games in Ottawa before being acquired by the Calgary Flames on Feb. 26, 2018. He signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent on July 24, 2019, then was claimed on waivers by the Winnipeg Jets on Dec. 4, 2019.
As a junior at the University of Denver in 2012-13, Shore led the team with 34 points (14 goals) in 39 games. As a first-year pro in the American Hockey League in 2013-14, he led Manchester rookies with 14 goals, 24 assists, 38 points and three power-play goals in 68 games. The following season Shore had a team-high 14 playoff assists as Manchester won the Calder Cup for the first time.
Shore won a gold medal with the United States at the 2010 IIHF World Under-18 Championship.
