EDM@VAN: Myers' 300th NHL point gives Canucks lead

VANCOUVER -- Tyler Myers broke a tie in the third period, and the Vancouver Canucks ended the Edmonton Oilers' four-game win streak with a 2-1 victory at Rogers Arena on Saturday.

Myers had time to wind up a slap shot from above the right face-off dot and scored high past the blocker of Edmonton goalie Mikko Koskinen for his 300th NHL point.
"I just tried to shoot it as hard as I could," Myers said. "It was great to put the team ahead for one, and for the guys to battle it out at the end and get the win, it's a little cherry on top."
Thatcher Demko made 34 saves and Bo Horvat also scored for the Canucks (13-16-2), who have won four of five games without top-line center Elias Pettersson (upper-body injury). Vancouver bounced back from a 5-1 loss against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday.
"I think it speaks volumes about the growth of our group," Demko said. "I think everyone in the room knew that we weren't very good last game and in this league we play so quickly, so frequently and being able to get right back at it, [we] had a good practice yesterday and I think guys were re-invigorated and they really wanted to get back out and get back in the 'W' column."

EDM@VAN: Draisaitl blasts home PPG to tie game

Leon Draisaitl scored for the fourth straight game and Koskinen made 26 saves for the Oilers (18-12-0), who won 6-2 against the Ottawa Senators on Friday.
"Definitely had enough chances to win the game," Draisaitl said. "Their goalie was good."
Vancouver took a 1-0 lead on a power play at 12:59 of the second period when Horvat scored on a rebound of J.T. Miller's one-timer. The Oilers had three defenders in the crease during a lengthy scramble before Horvat finally jammed the puck over the line.
"It was all pretty much a blur," Horvat said. "I just wanted to get my stick in there and I saw it for a split second and just tried to keep jamming away at it."

Draisaitl responded with a power-play goal to tie it 1-1 at 16:59 of the second after the Canucks killed a 23-second 5-on-3 but failed on a couple clearing attempts after the first penalty ended. Connor McDavid passed to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who found Draisaitl for a one timer from below the right face-off circle.
The goal extended Draisaitl's point streak to six games and (six goals, five assists) and McDavid's to five (three goals, nine assists). Draisaitl has scored 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in five games against the Canucks this season.
"We played really well for the most part," Draisaitl said. "We dipped a little bit in the third for a couple of minutes, but other than that I thought we were the better team. Sometimes that's just the way it goes. We had games this year we weren't the better team and we won."
Demko made five saves on an Oilers power play with 2:30 left in the third period, including after Koskinen was pulled for an extra attacker for the final 1:46.
"We did some things alright, we had some chances, but we didn't win, Edmonton coach Dave Tippett said. "We've got to come here with the mindset [that] we've got to do whatever it takes to win, and we didn't do it tonight."
